Lawrence Earl Barrett, 88 years old, a loving, kind and generous spirit, peacefully passed on Oct. 26, 2017 after a very full and happy life. Mentally sharp till the end, he has led a life dedicated and committed to family. Full of humor, hardworking, and modest, Larry had high standards of conduct in business and personal life.

A Colorado native, Larry was born in Rifle and raised in Glenwood Springs, Denver, and Craig. He graduated from Craig High School in 1946. He earned a degree in Petroleum Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines in 1950, working for Texaco and LADD Petroleum as an executive for most of his career. He bravely served in the US army as a combat engineer in North Korea during the War.

He fell in love and married Charlotte Rice in 1953, having four children and raising them in Rangeley, Craig, Williston, and Littleton. They had 54 very happy years together. Larry and Charlotte traveled all over the world (seven continents) before being limited by the progression of Charlotte’s Alzheimer’s disease. A fourteen year journey, he cared for her as long as possible at home then stayed very involved as he oversaw her care until her death.

Larry joyfully found love a second time around with Marilyn Bush, his dear friend and partner for the past 16 years. She quickly earned the respect and love of the entire Barrett clan. They have enjoyed many trips together, family time and companionship.

Larry dedicated much of his time and resources to help others: served as a mentor, a facilitator for the Alzheimer’s Assoc., supported scholarship funds, kept the family connected with opportunities for travel, reunions and education. He loved attending sports events and the theatre. Larry has enjoyed spending time with his four children and their families, including nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren, as well as with the extended Marilyn Bush family.

He is survived by Martin Barrett of Denver, CO; Miles and Kim Barrett of Bella Vista, AK; Nancy Barrett and Monty Mathews of Omaha, NE; Alice Barrett and Rick Peters of Evergreen, CO; and Marilyn Bush of Aurora, CO.

An inspiration to all in his family, he set a lasting foundation for closeness and celebration of one another.
