Terence Thomas Quirke, Jr. died on May 10, 2016 at the age of 86. He was born in Minneapolis, MN in 1929, the youngest son of three children born to Terence and Anne Quirke. He was raised in Urbana, IL and attended the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana and received his PhD in economic geology from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. He met his wife, Ruth Carter, in Minneapolis and they married in 1958. He was an assistant professor of geology at the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks for two years. In 1960 he joined the International Nickel Company of Canada (INCO) as a senior geologist and they, with their daughter, Grace Anne, moved to Thompson, Manitoba. By the time the family left Thompson he was in charge of all field exploration in western Canada. In subsequent years the family lived in Milwaukee, WI & Denver, CO. After 30 years of service, Terry retired from INCO in 1990.

In retirement he pursued his interest in genealogy and became a certified genealogist and a member or fellow of Canadian, United Kingdom & Irish genealogical societies. He authored four genealogy books on his family lines and in 2006 the National Genealogical Society presented him with the Award for Excellence: Genealogy and Family History for his book "Quirke Genealogy and Family History of Clonmel, County Tipperary, Ireland". He served as vice-president of the Colorado chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists and the Colorado Genealogical Society. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Wales, Ireland, Scotland and England Family History Society and on the Board of the International Society for British Genealogy and Family History.

Terence is preceded in death by his parents, Terence and Anne Quirke, his sisters, Frances and Dorothy and his wife of 52 years, Ruth. He is survived by his daughter, Grace Anne Quirke (David) Enderby, granddaughters Julie and Meg (Josh Menne); and eleven nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service is being held on Monday, May 23, 2016 at 2PM at St. John's Episcopal Cathedral, located at 1350 Washington Street, Denver, 80203.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lutheran Exempla Collier Hospice Center, 3210 Lutheran Parkway, Wheat Ridge, CO USA 80033 or the University of Denver, GSSW, 2148 S. High Street, Denver CO USA 80208 with "GSSW 1931 Legacy Endowed Scholarship Fund" in the memo line.
