Chong Lee Xiong was born on April 3, 1932 in a little village known as Na Ma, in the Xiangkhoang providence of Laos. His birth name was Blong; of which was later changed to Chong Lee.

Chong Lee’s father was Chou Houa Xiong and grandfather was Chong Khu Xiong. He had a younger brother, Ba La and 5 sisters: Chong, Pa, Youa, Kao and Cheu.

Chong Lee married Chao Lee in 1954 in the village of Phua Vien in the Xiangkhoang providence. Chong Lee and Chao have 5 sons: Kue, Ria, Van Kham, Yia and Vanteel; and 5 daughters: Houa, Dou, Nhia, Bao Bai and Mai See.

In 1942, Chong Lee’s family moved to Phua Vien where they lived for 24 years before moving to Long Cheng. From 1958 to 1960, Chong Lee served in the Royal Laotian Army. In 1960, he was promoted to a Lieutenant in the SGU (Special Guerrilla Units) and was stationed mostly in Long Cheng in the Louangphrabang providence.

When the Vietnam War ended in 1975, Chong Lee’s family made their way from the mountains of Long Cheng in Laos to Napho Refugee Camp in Thailand. After a little over a year, his family transitioned to Ban Vinai Refugee Camp.

In August of 1979, Chong Lee’s family arrived in Boulder, Colorado. Although the family resided in Neenah, Wisconsin for a couple years, Colorado remained their home for the most part; from Lafayette to Lyons to Broomfield and finally Westminster. Chong Lee worked as an assembler at Valley Lab for over 20 years before finally retiring in 2006.

Chong Lee was a kind man with a gentle soul. He had a deep love for his family and cared for his grandchildren and great grandchildren till the very end. He passed away on November 21st, 2017 at approximately 1:30 in the afternoon. He is survived by 2 sisters, 3 sons, 3 daughters, 31 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Chong Lee was 85 years old.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, December 2nd to Monday, December 4th, 2017 at Horan & McConaty Funeral Home on 9998 Grant Street, Thornton, Colorado 80229.
