Greek Orthodox Funerals

As the oldest Christian faith, Eastern Orthodoxy is full of ceremony and deep-rooted traditions. It is our honor and privilege to help uphold those practices that have helped families grieve for centuries. Our experience and relationship with Denver's Greek Orthodox church leaders and community members helps us to better serve our neighbors in their time of loss.

Honoring Ceremony and Tradition

Traditional Greek Orthodox funerals follow a distinct format, with specific expectations and requirements at each step:

  • The wake and accompanying prayer service (trisagion service)
  • Funeral service at the church
  • Procession to the cemetery and graveside service
  • A family gathering called a mercy meal or Makaria following the burial

These rituals give a much-needed structure to the grieving process and provide families with spiritual and emotional support from their community.

We will work closely with your priest to coordinate the care of your loved one's body and provide transport to the church and cemetery where they will be laid to rest. We can help with every detail, such as coordinating flowers, catering, and providing spacious accommodations for the wake and funeral service.

If you have questions about our Greek Orthodox funeral services or whether we can accommodate a specific request, please reach out to us at 303-745-4418 or pay a visit to any of our Denver funeral homes.
