Obituary

Michael E. McEwen (70) of Evergreen, Colorado passed peacefully on June 7, 2017.

Michael was born in Denver , Colorado in 1947 to parents Eugene and Barbara and had one younger Sibling Jana(Bowler). The family was raised in Lakewood, Colorado where Michael was actively involved in The Boy Scouts of America, numerous sports and where he developed a love for anything motorized having many scooters, motorcycles and his favorite in high school, a Corvette.

Michael married his first wife Susan and raised two sons Douglas and Scott. As a young family they lived in Wheatridge, Colorado and then moved to the Columbine area in the mid 70's. Michael was deeply involved with coaching both sons as the boys played football, baseball and basketball through high school. His love of the Colorado mountains was always a large part of his life as he hiked many of the "Fourteeners", and week long camping trips or ski trips with the family were the norm. Michael also loved to ride his bicycle. It was not uncommon the see him "ride off" for a casual 30-40 mile bike ride. He also participated in many of the Ride the Rockies events which takes riders over a different mountain pass each day for a week.

Michael worked his entire career for The Public Service Company of Colorado which is now known as Xcel Energy. He started as a lineman building large power substations up and down the front range and progressed into both the Marketing and Financial Forecasting departments. He retired after 35 years.

Michael and Susan moved to the Evergreen area in the mid 90's, renovating a home built by he and his father back in the 70's. Many family gatherings were held in that home and it holds special memories for the whole family. Sadly, Susan became ill and passed in the early 2000's but Michael chose to stay in the Evergreen area. Michael volunteered for the Evergreen Chamber of Commerce, where he met his second wife Kathleen. They loved spending time in the mountains and raising their large Newfoundland dog named Crystal. Golf was a favorite activity as they were members at Hiwan Golf Club.

Michael is survived by sons Douglas, Scott and sister Jan Bowler (Rob). Grandkids Mackenzie, Morgan and Zach.
