ELISABETH DILLON

Elisabeth ‘Liesl' Dillon was born in Schwébisch Gménd, Germany on May 16, 1926. She was born the eldest of the seven Kohnle children. From a young age, family was imprinted on her heart as what matters most in life. As a young adult she worked as a translator between the Americans and Germans during World War II to help provide for her family. During this time she met the love of her life an American soldier, Zilla Dillon, from Texas. He would bring her to the Wild West and adore her for 50 years. Together they would live a life of great adventure, living in over 30 different places and raising three beautiful children (Liz, Glen and Ron). The couple always returned to the mountains of Colorado, where they felt at home. She worked at Colorado College as a professor's assistant and German translator for 18 years. She believed family, hard work, and a life filled with laughter, is a life well lived. When people remember Liesl it is always a memory of how she helped them; gave them a roof over their head, cooked them a meal, or simply listened. She loved opera, gardening, cooking, and nature. Liesl's memory is carried on by her children, four adoring grandkids, five remaining siblings, and all those whose lives she has deeply touched. Liesl passed December 26, 2019, and even in her final hours the two words she continued to say was ‘Thank You'. A woman who radiated gratitude, love, independence, and selflessness is how she will be remembered.

A devoted Catholic and advocate for the military, the family asks that in lieu of flowers a donation to The Wounded Warrior Project or the American Cancer Society is made in her honor.
