William "Bill" Falkenberg

July 21, 1927 — May 10, 2022

Bill was born to John Joseph Falkenberg and M. Elizabeth Stevens Falkenberg. Until he was 12, he lived in Kansas City, MO, with his parents and brother, next door to his uncles, aunts, and cousins. The family moved to Denver and John established the Falkenberg Construction Company. Bill graduated from East High School and University of Colorado with a degree in architectural engineering. He served in the Navy twice - in World War II as an Electronics Technician, and in the Korean war as a Lieutenant and Radiological Safety Officer. In 1953, he joined his father and brother in the family business as its architect. His legacy includes the many traditional and modern houses he designed in the Denver area over decades.

Bill was involved in the community in many ways. He served on the boards of the Denver Business Bureau, Denver Friends of Folk Music, Denver Serra Club, Denver Progress, Inc., Archdiocesan Housing Committee, Colorado Historical Foundation, Lower Downtown Committee of Downtown Denver Inc., Historic Denver, Four Mile House, Housing Trust Council, and the Denver chapter of the American Institute of Architects. He was the construction advisor on restorations of the Ninth Street Historic Park, Molly Brown House, and Four Mile House. He was a member of the Cactus Club, and was honored to be a Knight of the Holy Sepulchre.

In 1951, he married his long-time sweetheart, Janis Hubner, and they had three children: Ruth, Chris, and Charles. Together they traveled the world, with and without the kids. Bill and Janis shared a passion for learning and their lives were filled with books, lectures, classes, concerts, and adventures. And they shared their love of learning with their children, nieces, and nephews. They made their home a place of hospitality and sanctuary with generosity and grace.

Bill was a gentleman and a scholar, a man of integrity, conviction, and faith. He is survived by his daughter, Ruth Falkenberg, grandson Chad Nelson, and beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

There will be a funeral mass on Friday, May 20, at 10:00 a.m. at Mother of God Catholic Church in Denver. For those unable to attend in person, you may attend via livestream at https://bxcited.com/william-falkenberg/
