Wayne E. Johnson

January 28, 1943 ~ November 16, 2022 (age 79)


JOHNSON, WAYNE, 79, of Cherry Hills Village, CO passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 after a brief but hard fought battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing. Wayne was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He grew up on a farm in north central Kansas and attended college at the University of Kansas and Fort Hays State. Wayne primarily worked for CertainTeed Corp. and later served as President of Dana Kepner Company for 18 years, from which he retired in 2013. He loved to golf, travel, and watch sports. Wayne dearly loved his wife and took great pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. Wayne was born on January 28, 1943 in Formoso, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Zelma; his brother, John, and sister, Pauline Sothers; and brother-in-law Fred Horne.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Virginia, his sons Deron (Jennifer) of Littleton, CO and Derek (Karin) of Greenville, SC; his four grandchildren, Michele Wilson(Ryan), Nick, Elin and Anna; his sister Clara Horne of Corvallis, OR; brother-in-law Gerald Sothers of Courtland KS; sister-in-law Pat of Paonia CO, and many nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to attend the celebration of life which will be held on December 19th at 10:30 am at Horan and McConaty Funeral Home (Centennial), 5303 East County Line Road, Centennial, CO 80122. The celebration of life will be followed by a reception where the family will receive guests. Interment will follow at the adjacent Rocky Mountain Memorial Park Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Wayne Johnson’s name to The Navy SEAL Danny Dietz Foundation. Please sign the Tribute Wall below.
