Tony Schmuki

June 30, 1925 — October 31, 2020

Arvada, Colorado

Anthony “Tony” Augustine Schmuki, 95, of Arvada, Colorado passed away October 31, 2020. Tony was born June 30, 1925 in Charleston, Arkansas to Alfred J. and Anna Marie Wiedeman Schmuki.

Tony served in the US Navy during World War II. He was aboard the USS Cassin Young and DD793. During his military service, he received the purple heart.

Tony married the love of his life, Shirley Mae Stephenson on October 12, 1950 in Denver, Colorado and spent many years together before her passing on July 2, 2015. During Shirley’s later years of life, her health had deteriorated, and Hospice was recommended to help care for her. Instead of Hospice, Tony made the decision to devote his time and energy to care for her. Because of the love and devotion Tony gave to Shirley, her life was extended for many years and during this time, their marriage was strengthened. With Tony’s passing, we know they are together forever!

Tony worked as a grocer most of his life, which he enjoyed. He was an avid golfer and served for a period as the chairman of the Indian Tree Senior men’s golf league. Tony loved gardening and grew beautiful roses; which some might say he was fanatical about.

One of the best qualities about Tony was that he was always quietly serving others… whether shoveling the snow from a sidewalk and driveway or mowing a lawn. Tony was always looking out for his neighbors (especially the Seniors) and doing what he could to help them.

Tony was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend and will be missed by many.

He is survived by children, Randy (wife, Kim) Schmuki; Tom Schmuki; Tina (husband, Bob) Cranfield; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and siblings, Anna, William, and Dorothy. He was preceded in death by his wife, a grandson, Eric Schmuki and siblings, Joseph and Frank.
