Timothy (Tim) Buntrock

1958 — January 1, 2021

Lakewood

Timothy (Tim) Buntrock of Lakewood, CO passed away on March 13, 2021 at age 62 after a year-long battle with a rare cancer (mixed small cell-neuroendocrine cancer).  He was born in Texas and moved to Pittsburgh, PA when he was five. He was active in the Boy Scouts and became an Eagle Scout.  Tim graduated from Chartiers Valley High School where he was an avid track and cross-country runner. He continued his love for running on the track and cross-country teams at Lock Haven University, Lock Haven, PA, where he graduated with a degree in English Literature.

After graduation, he was employed by ServiceMaster as a contract manager, working for three years in Parkersburg, WV and then moving onto Elkins, WV.  There he met his wife of 35 years, Suzanne. The two moved to Fairfax, VA where Tim finished his career with ServiceMaster and started his engineering degree at the University of Maryland, College Park, MD.  Tim and Suzanne moved to Tallahassee, FL, where Tim graduated with a Civil Engineering degree from Florida State University, thus beginning the career path he truly loved. Tim worked for the FL Department of Environmental Quality before moving to Ogden, UT.  There, he worked as an Environmental Engineer for the Utah Department of Transportation and earned his Professional Engineer’s License.

His final move was to Lakewood, CO where Tim started working for Michael Baker International and then for the CO Department of Transportation.  After leaving Florida, Tim fell in love with the mountains.  He loved the outdoors and went camping, fly fishing, bird-watching, golfing, hiking, biking, and running.  He was a member of the CO Masters Running Association which took him down many running paths and introduced him to many great friends.  He brewed beer and turned the brewing and bottling events into social gatherings for friends. Tim also enjoyed traveling across the United States and to several other countries.  Even though his life was full of adventures, he set aside time early every morning to read with the family cat on his lap. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Master in Lakewood, CO.  Tim was a true and honest friend. He was endlessly patient and kind, a loving spouse and fantastic father.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Cecelia, and sister-in-law Joan Buntrock. He is survived by his wife Suzanne, daughter Clare, sister and brother-in-law Jane and Brian Moran, brother and sister-in-law Steve and Georgette Buntrock, brother and sister-in-law Ken and Barbara Buntrock, father-in-law Larry Behlendorf, mother-in-law Catherine Behlendorf, sisters-in-law Cindy and Lisbeth Behlendorf, brother-in-law Steve Behlendorf, as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family would like to thank the amazing nurses, doctors, and staff at Saint Joseph Hospital, Lutheran Medical Center, Western Infectious Disease Consultants, and Compassus Hospice.
