Stephen Kile

June 11, 1941 — June 1, 2021

A son, brother, friend, husband, and father – Stephen Arthur Kile passed away June 1, 2021. He was almost 80-years old. Stephen was also an uncle and grandfather.

Stephen was born in June 1941 in St. Louis to Stephen Les and Jeannette Kile. Stephen grew up in Whitefish Bay, Wis. He was active in sports, academics, church, and the Boy Scouts.

At the University of Colorado, Boulder, Stephen earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Business in 1964. He was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. It was at CU that Stephen met his wife, Sandy.

Stephen and Sandy married in 1964 before moving to Oklahoma. The couple had four children, and lived in Bartlesville, Okla., Albuquerque, N.M., Centennial, Colo., and Tulsa, Okla. Stephen and Sandy retired in Fort Collins, Colo., and, later, Thornton, Colo.

Stephen worked for Phillips Petroleum Co. for 35 years and later as a consultant for a petrochemical-information company. At Phillips, his work included development of patents for chemical materials, uranium-mining operations, and sales and contracting for petrochemicals that were used for products such as plastics, packaging, and films.

Stephen was an Episcopalian. He loved reading and learning. Stephen was never without a book, magazine, or newspaper. History, current affairs, and politics were his favorite subjects. A lifelong passion for railroading, Stephen could readily cite railroad facts or details, whether they be about a nearby track or information in a book. He was a fan of football (Denver Broncos, Colorado Buffalos, Oklahoma Sooners) and baseball (Colorado Rockies). He was an animal lover (dogs and cats).

Stephen is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sandy, of Thornton; daughter, Kerri Kile, of Longmont, Colo., sons, Bryan, of Tulsa, Okla., Chris, of Oklahoma City, and Chad, of Denver; brother, Glenn, of Tyler, Texas; three grandchildren; and one niece and five nephews.

A memorial service of Stephen’s life is planned for 11 a.m. July 26 at Horan & McConaty’s Thornton Chapel. Remembrance donations may be made to Bristol Hospice, Denver.
