Sheryl Stegeman

June 23, 1976 — December 18, 2021

Highlands Ranch

Everyone who met Sheryl Stegeman was blessed with a wide smile, a big heart, and amazing laughter. We sadly lost our shining star on December 18, 2021, in Highlands Ranch, Colorado at the age of 45.

Sheryl Lynn Stegeman (Martynes) was born on June 23, 1976, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. She spent the first 4 years of her life in Tripoli, Libya. She went to Kenya, and Malta with her parents during that time, and then was raised in Colorado Springs, spending many summers visiting extended family in various parts of Canada. She graduated from Colorado Springs Christian School in 1994. She attended university at both Trinity Western University in Langley, BC, and Colorado School of Mines, in Golden, CO, working towards a double major in chemistry and chemical engineering. She also obtained two associate degrees from Aurora Community College.  Sheryl and Craig met in 1998 in Colorado Springs at a restaurant where they both worked.  They married in 1999 after Sheryl accepted Craig’s proposal in front of a few thousand people at a Colorado Springs Sky Sox baseball game.  They later settled in Highlands Ranch, CO in 2013.

Sheryl was an accomplished esthetician, creating her own business, and passionate about one day making her own products and owning her own storefront. She was a natural at doing this and loved making people feel good about themselves and the way they looked and felt.  She was also a cake-making and decorating enthusiast. She was the life of the party and lived life to the fullest. She loved baking, cooking, gardening, and basically anything creative. Many rescue puppies in the metro area have once lived in Sheryl and Craig’s home. She loved designing her beautiful home, always doing the work herself. She was a true DYI’er and would much rather have the satisfaction of doing something herself than paying someone to do it.  It was no shock for her family to come home to a new project after it already started.  She was an avid Colorado Avalanche fan and Carolina Panthers fan which proved difficult married to a Broncos fan; however, it ended up bringing her and Craig much closer over the years.

Sheryl always put everyone one else first.  This proved true as she put her own hobbies aside and learned to hunt and fish with her husband and sons. She loved camping, snow-shoeing, off-roading, and taking weekend trips to the mountains, notably Steamboat Springs, Grand Lake and Estes Park. Her dream was to have a waterfront home and land in the mountains where they could vacation and enjoy the outdoors. Sheryl loved the water and was a true water baby.  She loved wineries and breweries and their related summer festivals.  Sheryl loved hanging out with friends and neighbors, whether it was at a restaurant, in the cul de sac or at someone’s house.  She cherished those times greatly, especially when she provided the jello shots.  She loved snuggling and playing with Benni and he was her little 110 pound baby.  She enjoyed listening (and singing) to music, especially 80’s hairbands, Roxette, the Offspring and Brantley Gilbert.  Some days she even provided the neighbors with her singing, whether they wanted it or not.  She was a foodie and looked forward to vacations where they would try new restaurants. She was able to go on various trips to see, or celebrate her extended family in Montana, various parts of Canada, and Mexico, which she adored and held those memories tight. She loved road trips and traveling and visited many places in the US, Canada, Mexico and Costa Rica.  She adored her annual spring break getaways with just her and her two boys.  She loved traveling and dreamed of seeing so much more.  She wore her heart on her sleeve and would share that with anyone that wanted it and would stand up for anyone she cared about. She was incredibly smart, funny, generous, loyal and courageous and could become instant friends with anyone in a room.

Sheryl was a beautiful wife to her loving husband, Craig Stegeman, and a giving mother to her extraordinary sons Gavyn and Kayden always teaching them life lessons they would at some point need to learn.  She also was mom to her two dogs, Arrow and Benelli (Benni), and cat Charlotte. She is survived by her mother and father - William and Candice Martynes, as well as her younger sister, Krista Martynes, and younger brother, Eric (Shivaun) Martynes; in-laws Norm and Jackie Stegeman, Brian Stegeman, Dawn Stegeman and Travis (Shauna) Stegeman and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be missed by many members of her extended family, and friends.
