Sarah "Sally" W. Caulfield

Sarah Elizabeth (Wilcox) Caulfield, (Sally) age 98, passed peacefully in her room at Vi at Highlands Ranch, Colorado surrounded by her family on Thursday, June 9, 2022. She was born on October 21, 1923, in Meriden, Connecticut, to Ralph Henry and Beatrice (Powell) Wilcox.

Sally grew up on a dairy farm outside of Middletown Connecticut with her sister, Grace Wilcox Wheeler, her brothers Henry and Olin Wilcox, all of whom predeceased her. She graduated from Northfield Seminary School. She went on to attend the Women’s College at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro and graduated in 1945 with a bachelors degree in home economics. She worked for The New York Herald Tribune and Nestles.

Sally met her husband, John Theodore Caulfield, while working and living in New York City. They married on May 28, 1949, and together raised three children. Sally and John enjoyed traveling together, and made homes in upstate New York, California, Virginia, Oregon and Idaho. They celebrated 59 years of marriage before John's passing in 2008.

Sally will be remembered as an amazing woman who took interest in everyone she met. Her dedication to civic pride was inspirational. She volunteered her time to many worthy causes, Court Appointed Special Advocate, tour guide for the Kennedy Center, president of the school board, to name just a few. She also owned and operated an art gallery in Binghamton New York from 1975-1981. She spent lots of time saving unwanted items from the trash and donating them to secondhand stores. As the family matriarch she kept everyone together. She was an avid rock collector and had a keen artistic eye. Win or lose, Sally loved to play dice. She will also be remembered for her colorful toenails and her incredible smile.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Caulfield) Koonce, of Depoe Bay, Oregon; son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Lisa (Austin) Caulfield of Eagle, Idaho; son Steven Caulfield of Lakewood, Colorado and grandchildren, Christopher Caulfield and wife Beth, Gabriel Mack, Michael Caulfield, Emily Caulfield, Lacey Caulfield, Lauren Caulfield, and Jennifer Caulfield, and great grandchildren Jordyn (Caulfield) and Brendan Gorman, Kendra Caulfield and Madelyn Caulfield.

The family would like to thank the community in which Sally found love and support over the last 11 years, Vi at Highlands Ranch.

A private service will be held at a later date.
