Rudy Meyers

October 31, 1934 — September 5, 2021

Denver, Colorado

Rudy Meyers was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania on October 31, 1934, to Rudy and Mary Rose “Betty” Meyers.  Rudy passed naturally after living a wonderful and full life on September 5, 2021.

On September 6, 1952, Rudy married his first and only love Doris (Reckner) Meyers, whom he would spend his entire life loving and caring for.

Rudy began to show the world just how strong, resilient, and impressive he was when he went to Franklin & Marshall College on a full ride wrestling scholarship in 1952.  Not only was Rudy a standout on the mat, but he also thrived in his studies, while being a husband, working two jobs, and while raising two boys. In 1960, Rudy followed a job opportunity to Colorado, where he welcomed his two wonderful daughters into the world.  Rudy worked for the National Bureau of Standards in Boulder, CO, which, is known today as National Institute of Standards and Technology.  Rudy worked in Personnel/HR and often talked about the unique challenges that he faced in the role and the lifelong friendships he gained and strengthened while working there.

Colorado proved to be the perfect spot to raise his family! Sharing his love of the Rocky Mountains (hunting/fishing) with his family became a huge part of the fabric of their life.  He loved reminiscing about his time in the outdoors with family and friends regularly.

Rudy loved sports!  He was a standout in his bowling league, and he adored playing golf.   When he wasn’t playing himself, he was watching the Broncos or Rockies with his sweetheart.  Rudy also loved to support his grandchildren at their sporting events, where he would watch and cheer with the same intensity he did while watching professional sports.

Rudy made everyone in his life feel special! He would listen to you, remember what you said and do anything he could to help whatever you were going through, be a little easier.  He never ceased to make you feel like the most important person in the room.  He will be missed by many.

Rudy was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Gary “Butch” Meyers.  He is survived by his wife, Doris, brother Tom, sons, Rudy and Ted, daughters, Daunice and Lisa, 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.  Services will be held on Friday September 24, 2021, at 10:30 AM at Horan & McConaty 9998 Grant St, Thornton, CO 80229.

In Rudy's honor, donations may be made to St. Judes at www.stjuse.org/give/memorials .and.dedications.com or the Wounded Warriors Project at support.woundedwarriorproject.org
