Ronald Berger

March 21, 1944 — January 13, 2021

Following a brief period of home hospice care, Ron died on Wed. Jan. 13.  He was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) in 2011.  Thanks to new treatments and a caring medical team, Ron was able to enjoy his much of his remaining years.

Ron grew up on the family farm near Halstead, Kansas and graduated from Halstead High School in 1962.  He graduated from the University of Colorado in 1972, with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering.  Ron began his engineering career at Beech Aircraft in Wichita, KS and retired from Lockheed Martin in 2011.

Activation of the Kansas Army National Guard brought Ron to Ft. Carson, CO in May, 1968.  Ron & his wife remained in Colorado when the unit was deactivated in Dec. 1969.  He embraced Colorado’s outdoors, enjoying camping, cross-country skiing, fly fishing, and 4-wheel drive roads.  He was an avid traveler, which often overlapped with his interest in wine and world viticulture.  Ron received over thirty awards as an amateur/hobby winemaker.  Most important are the friends and family who shared his passions and many adventures.

Ron is survived by his wife of 53 years, Annette L. (Al) Berger of Lakewood.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Josephine Berger, and sister Sue Anne Berger of Evergreen, CO.

Memorial donations in Ron’s name may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society ( https://www.lls.org ), or a charity of your choice.
