Regina Knight

July 3, 1932 — June 4, 2023

Arvada, Colorado

Regina Mary Knight (Wesolowski) was born in greater Baltimore, Maryland on July 3, 1932, the youngest of 11 surviving children of Jozef and Victoria Wesolowski, who had immigrated from Poland.  She attended Baltimore Catholic High, Saint John’s College, and graduated from the University of Maryland in 1954 (the first person in her family to attend college). She met her future husband, Duane Charles Knight, in Baumholder, Germany, in 1957, where she worked in the Special Services Division for the Department of the Army. Duane was stationed there as part of Army Intelligence. In 1958, after returning to the USA, Regina moved to Boulder, CO to obtain her Colorado teacher’s certificate. Duane was released from active duty in 1958 and returned to Denver. Regina and Duane were married in St. Luke’s Church in Baltimore, MD on January 16, 1960. She and Duane made their first home in Colorado Springs, CO where Duane was employed in commercial lending and Regina taught in a rural school until their first child, Duane Jr., was born. They soon moved to Fort Collins, CO. There, Regina and Duane also welcomed Mary Susan, Sheila, and Victoria. After Victoria entered school full time, Regina was employed by the Poudre R-1 School District in Fort Collins. The family moved to Arvada, CO in 1976 and Regina was employed by the Jefferson County School District as a substitute teacher. She and Duane traveled extensively, including excursions to Europe, Australia, and China, among others. They also visited every state capitol building in the US, including Alaska and Hawaii.

Regina’s greatest joy was being around her family; she attended many of her grandchildrens’ activities and hosted many sleepovers and holiday gatherings. She also loved the theater, singing, playing bridge, and reading, and was active in her parish, Spirit of Christ Catholic Community. She’s remembered for her sense of fun and witty humor. Regina was predeceased by her parents, 11 siblings, one grandson, one niece, and three nephews. She is survived by her sister Ceceila, her husband Duane, her children Victoria Knight-Allen (Randy), Sheila Knight-Fields (William), MarySusan Braud (Clarence), and Duane Knight Jr. (Suzanne), seven grandchildren, one great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
