Peter Bjork

Sedalia, Colorado

Peter A. Bjork passed away at his home in Sedalia, Colorado on March 17, 2022.  Peter was devoted to his family, his clients and his many friends.  His wise counsel and wit will be sorely missed.

Peter was born and raised in Phillips, Wisconsin.  As a graduate from college and law school at the University of Wisconsin, he was a lifelong Badger fan.  Peter practiced law in Sheboygan, Wisconsin for several years but moved to Denver in 1974, where he practiced law with the firm of Poulson, Odell & Peterson until 1991, when he founded his own firm with several colleagues and where he practiced until his retirement in 2016.  Peter was a member of the Bars of Colorado, Wisconsin, and Wyoming, and was especially proud of his status as a Wyoming lawyer because of the collegial relationships he had with a number of Wyoming lawyers.  Peter was a brilliant but practical lawyer who always looked for a way to solve a client’s problem at the least expense.  He mentored many young lawyers during his more than 50-year career and took great pleasure from those relationships.  Many of them learned more valuable lessons about the practice of law from Peter over a cocktail or two than they learned from long hours in the law library.

Peter had eclectic interests outside of the practice of law.  He obtained a pilot’s license not long after moving to Colorado and enjoyed flying to small towns in Colorado and surrounding states to check title records.  Peter also developed a love for fly fishing and was quite accomplished at casting and fly-tying.  Though he wasn’t a church goer, he often said that rivers were his church, and he spent many happy hours on rivers all over western North America, as well as in Argentina, Belize, Costa Rica, New Zealand and Tasmania.  He loved teaching his children to fish and fishing with his wife and friends.  Peter also loved woodworking and he blessed family and friends with beautifully crafted objects including cradles and jewelry boxes, in addition to the fine furniture he made for his home.  Peter had a love-hate relationship with the game of golf and finally gave it up in disgust a few years ago.  But he maintained the many friendships he made on the golf course and cherished the stories from his golfing days.  And, of course, Peter’s family regrets that sales of Cutty Sark scotch will significantly decline as a result of his demise.

Peter is survived by his wife, Laura Lindley, his three children and their spouses, Peren (Mindy), Erica Manning (Greg), and Carl (Ania), his sister Hedy Lemieux (Doug), and seven grandchildren whom he loved beyond measure:  Niklas, Olivia, Sophia, Axel, Abel, Aden, and Mila.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved spending time with their Uncle Peter.

A memorial gathering honoring Peter is planned for June 20, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. at Hudson Gardens, 6115 S. Santa Fe Dr., Littleton, Colorado.  In lieu of flowers, you might consider a gift to one of two organizations which Peter has supported for many years:  Trout Unlimited (tu.org) or Denver Rescue Mission (DenverRescueMission.org).
