Norbert Montano

August 17, 1946 — March 29, 2021

Norbert Lee Montano, 74, passed away at Swedish Medical Center on Monday March 29, 2021.

Born August 17, 1946 in Antonito, Colorado, he spent his childhood years in Pueblo, Colorado.

During his college years, Norbert lived in Boulder, Colorado where he earned a Bachelor's degree and later a teacher’s certificate from the University of Colorado.  He also attended law school at Suffolk University in Boston, Massachusetts. He ultimately settled down in Denver, Colorado, working for the Colorado Civil Rights Division and the Department of Housing and Urban Development as a civil servant until his retirement. He also was a teacher earlier in his life.  Norbert was recognized as a cherished, valued colleague, and received many commendations and awards for his deep commitment to his work and outstanding service to his clients. He enjoyed traveling around the world, to include trips to Iceland, Europe, and Japan.

He is preceded in death by his loving spouse, Dolores Conde, his parents Deloy B. Montano and Manuelita Gomez Montano, his siblings, Cleo Montano, Albert Montano, Ted J. Montano, Connie Montano Olson, his nephew, Brandon Ira Kohr, and his granddaughter, Reies Tules Armenta Conde.

He is survived by his son, Colonel Benjamin D. Conde (Reina), and granddaughter, Renaissance Conde.  Additionally, he is survived by siblings, Michael J. Montano (Patricia), Karen S. Montano, Windi J. Montano, Richard Montano, Murri Montano Bishop (Andy), Chris Heimburger (John) and Cathy Montano Kohr (Steve).

He was deeply loved by his nieces and nephews, Evan Kohr, Sadako Kohr, Jessica Fowler, Lauren Pacheco, Micke Long, Victoria Long, Sophia Long, Chris Ann Bishop, Katey Bishop, Hunter Heimburger, Kais Heimburger, Cheyenne Morris, Bonnie Carter, Max Montano and Mallory Bensik.

Norbert’s life will be celebrated with a mass at 10 am Thursday, April 15, 2021 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church located at 13120 E. Kentucky Ave, Aurora, Colorado 80012.

Inurnment will be at 3:00 pm April 15, 2021 at Roselawn Cemetery, 1706 Roselawn Rd, Pueblo, Colorado.

Norbert was always very generous to several local and national charitable organizations including Samaritan Shelter, Denver Rescue Mission, Colorado Lion Sanctuary, Wounded Warriors and the National Wildlife Federation.  If you wish to donate in his name, these are some of his favorites or you may donate to a charity of your own.
