Mateo Steva Cadiz

September 4, 2020 — October 10, 2020

Arvada

Mateo Jayden Rey Steva Cadiz was called to Heaven peacefully during his nap on October 10, 2020.  He was born on September 4, 2020 in Lafayette, CO to Kattryna Steva Shadlow and Tre Cadiz.  Mateo LOVED to cuddle with his mom and just lay on her chest staring into her eyes.  Even though he was only 5 weeks old, he had such a wonderful personality.  He was just starting to smile, coo, and imitate his mother’s sounds when she would talk to him.  Mateo was a calm and good baby who typically only got up once during the night to eat, but had already slept all the way through the night one time by 3 weeks old so Mommy could get a good night’s rest.  Besides cuddling with Mommy, Mateo loved to do tummy time and being held by his grandma, Aunt Madisson, Godmother Taylor, Father Tre, and Uncle Austin.  He also loved playing with his Uncle Will who is 5, and Will would always tell Mateo, “I’m your protector and we are best friends”.  Mateo’s other favorite thing to do was to pee and poop on everyone, especially his mom.  He seemed to do it almost daily :) .  He also loved to eat and it showed, because he gained 3 lbs in the last 2 weeks of life.  Besides being one of the most adorable babies, Mateo would frequently have the cutest little sneezes and would do it numerous times in a row like his Great-Grandma Steva.  We could always count on Mateo having the hiccups after each feeding, just like his Aunt Madisson did when she was a baby.  We know our baby was too precious to stay with us for very long, and we will miss him every day.  We are so thankful to have had him in our lives and to teach us the true meaning of unconditional love.

Mateo is survived by his mother, Kattryna Steva Shadlow; father, Tre Cadiz; maternal grandparents, Sarah and Jeff Timpe; paternal grandma, Charmaine Cadiz;  maternal great-grandparents, Merle and Patsy Steva (Waterloo, IA) and Ronald and Kathy Timpe (Cedar Falls, IA); maternal great-great grandma, Muriel Steva (Waterloo, IA); aunts, Madisson Steva Stocks, Sheila Shadlow of Waterloo, IA; Chrisstina (Jerrold) Mango of Arkansas, Ashlie Davis of Iowa, Cheyann Shadlow of Waterloo, IA, Tia (De’Janerio Brady) Cadiz of Las Vegas, NV, Taylor Cadiz of Las Vegas, NV; uncles, William Timpe, Nathan Jeys (Waterloo, IA), Ben (Kate) Shadlow, Dallas Shadlow of Waterloo, IA, Tyler Cadiz of Las Vegas, NV and Timothy Cadiz of Texas; great-uncle, Michael Steva (Linda Nou) (Las Vegas, NV); great aunt, Kristy (Toby) Staggs of Urbana, IA; 3 great-great-aunts; 3 great-great-uncles; 1 great-great-great-aunt June Kidal of Traer, IA; and numerous cousins and extended family members.  Mateo’s God Parents were Aunt Madisson Steva Stocks, Aunt Taylor Mitchell and Adam Forbes.

Mateo was preceded in death by his maternal great-great grandparents, Jane and Bernard Bottomley, Winifred Blum and Vernon Steva and paternal great-grandfather, Reynaldo Cadiz.
