Mary Smith

Mary R. Smith, 98, passed away on Friday April 29, 2022. She was born on December 7, 1923 in Chicago, IL to the late John J. Sr. and Kathryn (Goga) Ryba. There she met her Husband of 39 years, James W. Smith. They were married at St. Barbara’s Catholic Church on May 3, 1947.

They moved to Denver, CO in 1950.   Mary had various jobs in retail.  Her greatest accomplishment and a source of great pride was in raising her children, Janice (Jan) L. Rohr (Bill), Rebecca (Becky) M. Starr (Rick) and James (Jim) A. Smith (Penny).

She had nine grandchildren; Bill (Kim), Danny (Erin), Mike (Alicia), Kari (David), Kaleigh (Mike), Kristin (Jesse), Matthew (Mike), Amanda (Alcides), Aimee (Levi); 13 great grandchildren Addison, Preston, Amelia, Emmett, Emmy, Lily, Cora, Kacey, Arianna, Antonio, Alex, Cooper and Isabelle. She is survived by one sister Bernice Gutowski. She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband Jim; siblings, Frank, Helen, Joseph, Albert, Edward, Anna, Sophie, John Jr., Leonard, Michael, and Chester. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mary enjoyed reading, walking three miles a day and spending time with her family. Her home was the gathering place for wonderful holiday celebrations. The grandkids enjoyed memorable summers playing board games, card games and back yard adventures.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am at All Saints Catholic Church in Denver on June 6, 2022 and she will be buried at Fort Logan National Cemetery with her husband.

In lieu of flowers, Mary’s family requests that a donation in her memory be sent to All Saints Catholic Church; 2559 S Federal Blvd, Denver, CO 80219.
