Mary Polsfoot

1928 — January 1, 2020

Centennial

Mary Polsfoot, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 23, 2020. She was the proud mother of Sally (Mark) Baldwin and Tom (Kris) Polsfoot, grandmother of Matthew (Megan), Daniel (Jessica), Shane and Erin, and great-grandmother of Charlotte, Emma and Jude, sister-in-law Sonya Hesterman, aunt to Amanda, Kathe, and Thomas. She was preceded in death by her brothers Maurice Hesterman and Thomas Hesterman.

Mary was born in 1928 in Lake Forest, IL to Thomas and Katherine Hesterman. She attended Mundelein College in Chicago. In 1951 she met Francis Polsfoot who she married in 1952  and enjoyed 33 wonderful years of marriage until his death in 1985. Fran's career in professional football took the family around the country, relocating them from Wisconsin, to St. Louis, Houston, Cleveland, back to Houston, and finally Denver.

As an avid football fan, Mary was able to enjoy a robust, exciting life as  a member of the professional football family. Because of his exciting, yet demanding career, Mary often wore the hat of both mother and father. Mary was a very stylish, soft spoken woman with a gentle heart. She enjoyed her love of fashion by first working at Marshall Fields in Chicago and then worked in various boutiques throughout the cities in which she lived. Because of her friendly, welcoming nature, she established warm friendships with both coworkers and customers alike.

A devout Catholic, Mary volunteered with Helping Hands at her church, St. Thomas More in Centennial, CO., where she was proud to receive a Pastor's award for her role as greeter for the early morning service. This was a position she took very seriously and would brave whatever the weather, including snowstorms,  to get to her post to greet other parishioners with a warm, welcoming smile. Mary always enjoyed a fine meal and a glass of wine shared with family or friends. "It's 5 o'clock somewhere" was a favorite phrase of hers.

We will always remember her kind, gentle spirit and will miss her deeply. The family would like to give special thanks to the caring nurses at The Timbers of Holly Creek Skilled Nursing facility, the wonderful care given to her by the nurses and nursing assistants from Suncrest Hospice, the Connections Committee at Holly Creek who welcomed her and gave her company, and Kathy and Heidi at Holly Creek for assisting her while there. A small, family burial will take place at Fort Logan Cemetery and a Memorial Service will be held at a later date, not yet determined, for family and friends.
