Margaret "Peggy" Davila

Margaret (“Peggy”) Hayes Davila, age 82, died in Littleton, Colorado on Friday, November 20, 2020.  The cause was complications from lung disease and dementia.

Born March 19, 1938 in Rockford, Illinois, she first lived in Chicago, and then was raised in Michigan in the cities of Grand Rapids and Detroit.  Peggy attended St. Mary’s of Redford High School in Detroit.  In 1960, she graduated cum laude from Detroit’s Marygrove College, with a degree in Music.  Peggy decided to pursue a music career and moved to New York City where she met the love of her life, Lou Davila.  Peggy worked over fifty years as a Choir Director, Organist and Singer for various parishes in the Archdiocese of New York and the Diocese of Brooklyn until her retirement in 2015.  Throughout her career, she was a member of the American Guild of Organists.  She was also a longtime proud member of AA. Additionally, she provided private instruction in piano, organ and voice to children and adults alike.  Music was Peggy’s lifelong passion.

Survivors include her sister, Jeanne Hayes Olkowski (Dr. Thomas) of Roxborough Park, CO and her brother, James E. Hayes (Mary C. Kloepfer) of Littleton, CO.  Peggy loved her role as aunt and cherished her nephew, Colin F. Olkowski of Roxborough Park, CO, her niece, Mary C. K. Hayes of Chicago, Illinois, and her nephew, Connor R. Hayes (Christy) of Westwood, Kansas.  Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Louis M. Davila, in 1992; her father, Raymond J. Hayes, in 1966; and her mother, Margaret Burke Hayes, in 2000.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 8035 S. Quebec St., Centennial, CO 80112.  Burial is anticipated to take place on November 30, 2020, and will be at the Calverton National Cemetery, Route 25, 210 Princeton Blvd., Calverton, NY 11933.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Peggy’s memory to Elevation Hospice of Colorado , Bobbi and the Strays , or Broadway Cares .
