Lydia Mangan

October 28, 1951 — August 13, 2022

Lydia Ann Mangan, beloved wife of Richard Anderson, dear friend of many, passed away quietly on August 13, 2022 at Highline Place Memory Care Community.   Diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2014, she fought valiantly against this most insidious disease for far too many years.  She loved family, friends and cats from Silas to Sammy.  She enjoyed practicing law, reading good books, exploring art and architecture, trying new foods and wines, traveling the world and living in Colorado.
Lydia was born in Portland, Oregon to Albert Leo Mangan and Ruth Marie Mangan on October 28, 1951.  The family moved to Boulder, Colorado just three years after she was born.  Lydia always felt that made her a Colorado Native or close enough to claim it.  Lydia attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Boulder until entering Boulder High School; graduating Valedictorian in 1969.   Lydia went on to attend the University of Washington where she met her oldest and dearest friend, Kelly Reams.  She graduated with a B.A. in Mathematics and an Elementary Teaching Certificate in 1973.  After several years working in banking, Lydia pursued her dream and returned to college in pursuit of a law degree.   Lydia attended the University of Denver, College of Law, and in 1983 graduated Juris Doctor.
After graduating with her Law Degree, Lydia served her internship with the Securities and Exchange Commission before passing the bar in 1983.  Lydia was an Associate with the Phillip Lowery and Irwin Sandler Law firms in Denver from 1983 to 1991.  In 1991 she joined Kutak Rock LLP in Denver and in 1995 was made a Partner specializing in structured finance.  In 2000 she joined Krendl Krendl Sachnoff and Way, P.C. as a Partner specializing in transactional matters.  In 2004 she formed her own firm, Lydia A. Mangan, P. C., handling various transactional matters and also acting as a part time staff attorney for Davis Graham & Stubbs LLP, until finally retiring from practice in 2012.
Lydia met her soul mate, Richard (Dick) Anderson, in 1994 and married him in 1995.  Dick said, “I never knew what real love was until I met Lydia.  The greatest happiness in my life was being with Lydia and the greatest sadness in my life was losing her to Alzheimer’s.”  Lydia and Dick honeymooned in Hawaii and loved the Islands, returning some six times in subsequent years.   They also enjoyed many other travels throughout Europe with favorite memories of Paris, London, Barcelona and everywhere in Italy.  Together they designed and built their home in Lakewood, Colorado; moving in shortly after their honeymoon in November 1995.
Lydia is survived by her husband, Dick Anderson, and her siblings; Margaret Riggs & spouse Jim & family, Greg Mangan & partner Barbara Best & family, Mary Mangan, Paul Mangan & partner Jane Rinehart, Mike Mangan & partner Liz Tillman, John Mangan & spouse Beth & family.   Lydia was predeceased by her father, Albert Mangan; her mother, Ruth Mangan; her sister-in-law, Char Mangan; and her nephew, Jeremy Riggs.
