Lorraine Deagrosa

September 4, 1931 — January 29, 2021

The world lost a beloved mother. Lorraine Elizabeth DeAgrosa passed away peacefully on Friday, January 29, 2021 after a yearlong courageous battle with cancer.  She was 89 years old.

Born in Brooklyn, New York on September 4, 1931, Lorraine was the only daughter of Mary Jane Armstrong and David Dennis Jordan Sr. She had three daughters: Cynthia Louise, JoAnn and Gloria Ann with her husband of 39 years, Joseph Anthony DeAgrosa Jr.  Surviving her is her older brother David Dennis Jordan Jr., her two daughters JoAnn Johnston (husband Charles Sr.) and Gloria DeAgrosa-Price (husband Wiley), five grandchildren, Lorraine, Charles Jr., Joseph, Andrea, and Michael, nine great-grandchildren, Sadee, Cayden, Cameron, Larissa, Charles III, Amelia, Joseph Jr., Miles, and Logan and two great-great grandchildren, Riley and Adeline.

Lorraine lived most of her life in New York but relocated to Phoenix, Arizona in the mid 60’s due a family member’s illness.  She eventually moved to Colorado to be closer to family soon after her husband passed away in 1993, first to Littleton and then to her beloved home in Arvada.

As a young woman in New York, Lorraine was an equestrian. Lorraine had a passion for horses. Her love of horses led to her meeting her future husband Joseph, where he worked at one of the original riding stables in Brooklyn.  She was also a telephone operator and worked at the Woolworths in Manhattan, walking across the Brooklyn Bridge daily to get to work. She was adventurous and loved to travel. She took a solo trip across America in the early 50’s, working various jobs along the way including one as a ship’s steward traveling thru the Panama Canal to San Francisco with the goal of visiting Joseph, who was in the military during the Korean Conflict and stationed in Kobe, Japan.  Once married (Valentine’s Day, 1954) and then with children, Lorraine was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and helped to raise her granddaughters.  While living in Arizona, Lorraine worked temporarily in property management, as a technician for Motorola and as a home health aide.  She also volunteered at local city parks in both Arizona and Colorado.

Lorraine was known for her care giving nature and never letting anyone go hungry.   She had a great sense of humor and many interests including horses, Bingo, dogs, discussing movies, actors and politics, sewing, creative cooking, shopping, and Colorado weather.  She was dearly loved and will be missed.

Funeral services will be privately held. Memorial donations may be made in Lorraine's name to the ASPCA, PO Box 96929, Washington, DC 20090-6929
