Laurie Johnson

Laurie was introduced to the world on December 20th, 1959 to her Mother and Father Ed and Nidia in Panama City Panama. Shortly after her birth, the family relocated to Sacramento, CA where Laurie would be raised as a bonified California Girl. Throughout her scholastic career she enjoyed playing the violin, basketball and loved public speaking, which would provide her with her phenomenal orator skills later in her career. She attended the Citrus Heights public school system and would graduate to go on to earn her Associates of the Arts from American River College.

From the young age of 16, Laurie immediately began working for the United States Government as a student employee for the Department of Defense as a GS-3. Upon graduation she became a permanent employee and the rest, is as they say “history.” Through many obstacles that come with being a minority woman, she fought to eventually become the Director of Human Resources for the Bureau of Reclamation, and in 2008 took her most infamous leap to join the United States Mint in Denver Colorado. Upon Laurie’s departure her position at the Mint was Deputy Director with over 200 employees under her wing and guidance. This was a highly coveted and respected position that she held with honor and grace.

Outside of her family, there was nothing Laurie loved more than her career. It was her passion and fueled her flame that burned and never waivered over a span of what would have been 45 years June of 2021. Laurie was strong and dedicated always offering wisdom, grace and generosity on her quest to uplift and inspire every person she came in contact with. She had a brilliant spirit constantly revealed through the selfless love she exhibited. Her smile and sparkle in her eye could turn any bad day to a pleasant experience. In her presence, the atmosphere was always light and full of laughter and love, a sound that will sorely be missed. Laurie was a tremendous example of hard work, motivation and patience and strived to teach others so that these fundamental characteristics would live on.

Laurie’s hobbies included but are not limited to dancing, playing cards, bingo and slot machines, watching crime shows, shopping and spending most of her time laughing and traveling with family.

The weight of Laurie’s absence will be heavy but we will now rest assured that she is no longer suffering and in God’s hands.

She is survived by Nidia (Mother), Ed (Brother), Sabrina (Niece), Amanda (Daughter), Cash (Grandson) and a host of other loving family and friends.
