Lane Mohler

1966 — January 1, 2021

Arvada, Colorado

Lane Richard Mohler, 54, of Arvada, Colorado, passed away unexpectedly March 3, 2021. Our hearts are broken as he is loved by many and will be deeply missed.

Lane was born May 28, 1966 in Wheat Ridge, Colorado to Richard Dean and Glenna Fogle Mohler.

As a young man, Lane attended grade school and then high school in Arvada, Colorado.  He subsequently attended the University of Colorado in Boulder and began his work as an intuitive and brilliant software developer.  Lane became known as someone who could do miracles with computer programming.  His expertise and networking attracted professional attention from all over the world.  He loved learning new technologies and had a tremendously fulfilling and successful career in the software developing community. Lane created deep and lasting relationships with his co-workers who he considered his lifelong best friends. They were great blessings in his life and will remain dear to his sister as she navigates this difficult time.

Those closest to him knew that Lane’s family and his religious beliefs were the most significant anchors in his life.  He found real joy in teaching early morning seminary classes to high school students for more than seven years.  Many referred to Lane as a “master at teaching.”  It was truly one of his most beloved talents which he felt so grateful to share.  (Everyone knew that anyone who could keep teenagers voluntarily attending religion classes at 6:00 am was definitely gifted.)

Lane’s membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints gave him earnest cause to support his niece during her full-time mission to Ecuador.  Likewise, he was looking forward to giving the same support for his nephew who was called and plans to serve in Honolulu, Hawaii.  This was a wonderful reminder for when Lane also served a mission as a young man in his 20’s.  As a full-time missionary (as a Latter-day Saint), Lane served in Houston, Texas where he learned to speak the Laotian language by working exclusively with the Lao people whom he grew to love.

Animals were always attracted to Lane’s kindness and gentle spirit.  He especially loved cats. Lane trained one of his cat’s to easily leap from the floor into his arms when he would come home from work.  His gentleness and kindness to animals and children were proof of his genuine, sweet spirit.

Lane was particularly generous in providing all-expense-paid special trips to Disneyland or Disney World for family and their close friends.  Those outings led to wonderful memory books filled with photos and history from each vacation, and a legacy for all of those who were fortunate to travel with he and his family.  Most notable, however, was how dedicated and supportive he was to his sister, Myla Mohler Bashford, as she accompanied him on those trips exploring new places and having new experiences together.

Lane was quite the “foodie” and loved learning about and creating new dishes.  He enjoyed watching cooking shows and cooking alongside his sister, creating amazing family dinners for special occasions and family get togethers.  Christmas Eve will never be the same without his prime rib and brisket.

Lane is survived by his sister, Myla Mohler Bashford; brother in-law, Mark Bashford; his niece and two nephews, Amanda, DJ and Joey Bashford; and numerous friends and colleagues whose lives he filled with light, laughter and wisdom.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Deena Mohler.
