Judith " Judy " Franek

January 28, 1945 — November 19, 2022

Judith “Judy” Leslie Franek, 77, passed away November 19, 2022, in Aurora, Colorado following complications from diabetes.

She is survived by her husband, Stephan Franek; her son, Gregory Franek; her grandchildren Noah and Eliot; her sister, Holly Dunne; and many nieces and nephews. Judy’s first son, Jason Franek,  passed away peacefully in hospice on December 21, 2022.

Judy was born January 28, 1945, in New Britain, CT to Dorothy and Russell Hanna. She grew up in New Britain, and later in Newington, CT, where she graduated from Newington High School in 1963. She spent her childhood summers at Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison, CT. Judy loved her summers camping at the beach and often spoke fondly of the memories she made there with her sister Holly.

Judy began working for Travelers Insurance Company in Hartford, CT shortly after graduating from high school. During this time, she also attended Hanover School of Modeling where she participated in several fashion shows, highlighting her keen sense of style and eye for fashion trends, a distinguishing characteristic of hers throughout her life.

Judy left Travelers Insurance in 1968 when she moved out to Colorado. She worked that summer at the University of Denver School of Music, then began a career at John Deere Equipment Co. It was during this time that she met her future husband Stephen (Steve) Franek, whom she married on April 21, 1971 in East Haddam, CT.

Judy’s focus soon turned to raising a family, and she and Steve welcomed their first born son Jason Andrew in 1975, followed by their second son Gregory Russell in 1979.

In 1991, Judy began a career at the Rotary Club of Denver where she was responsible for coordinating the weekly meetings and annual events for the club. She knew most of the Rotarians by name (some 600+ active members), and they were always happy to be greeted by her smile when visiting the main office or attending the weekly meetings.

Judy loved being a wife, mother and grandmother to her two grandsons, Noah and Eliot. She and Steve celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2021, a landmark anniversary she was very proud of. She loved visiting her grandsons and hearing about everything they were doing, and she took pride in being their “GJ”. Judy’s kindness and infectious smile was felt by many and will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

A memorial Service for both Judith and her son Jason  will be held on April 29, 2023 at 11:00AM, at Montview Boulevard Presbyterian Church, 1980 Dahlia St., Denver, CO 80220.
