CDR John L. “Jack” Muckenthaler, USN Retired, age 85, passed away on June 7, 2021 in Castle Rock, Colorado. Jack was born July 1, 1935 in Paxico, Kansas to Gus and Bernice Muckenthaler. Jack married his beloved wife, Gayelene on February 17, 1967 in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Jack served 30 years in the United States Navy as an aviator. His naval career took him to destinations all over the world, including: New Zealand, Antarctica, Vietnam, NAVCOMMU Cutler naval base in Maine, where he was commanding officer then, his final duty station, NORAD. After his retirement from the Navy, Jack continued his devotion to public service, with the Douglas County Sheriff’s office, until his retirement in 1996. Jack made friends everywhere he went, throughout his career, retirement and RV trips around North America!
Jack is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gayelene Muckenthaler, his daughter, Michelle Muckenthaler and his son, John Muckenthaler JR.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Gus and Bernice Muckenthaler and his siblings, Jim Muckenthaler and Judy Lindner.
