Moorhead, John W., M.S., Ph.D.
Passed away on June 11, 2022 in Centennial, CO. He was born on August 7, 1942, in Neodesha, KS, to Frank A. Moorhead, M.D. and Lola Moorhead. John received his Master’s degree from Michigan State University, and his Doctorate in Microbiology and Immunology from SUNY at Buffalo, NY. He was a tenured faculty member at The University of Colorado School of Medicine for 46 years, ending his career as the Associate Dean of Research. Over the course of his career John published multiple independent and peer reviewed medical studies, and was a highly distinguished researcher and scholar in the fields of microbiology and immunology.
Fondly nicknamed “Chigger”, John was quarterback of his high school football team and an avid baseball player in Neodesha. He loved quail hunting and all variations of fishing, including the lakes and rivers of Colorado, deep sea Marlin expeditions in the Baja peninsula, and several solo trips to remote lakes in Saskatchewan. John had a mischievous streak which provided his family and friends with a long catalog of funny stories and pranks. He collected southwestern art, and enjoyed visiting art festivals and galleries to collect photography, paintings, and antiques which filled his house. Above all else, John loved his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his children Patrick J. Moorhead (Piper-Lori Parker), Christopher A. Moorhead, Anne E. Moorhead, his grandsons Parker J. Moorhead and Pendleton J.W. Moorhead, his former spouse Jacqueline Moorhead, and his brother F. Allen Moorhead, M.D. (Adriana), cousin Linda Gregg (Clark). He was preceded in death by his parents, uncle Jack Moorhead and his cousin Sue Shelnutt.
A Celebration of Life and reception will be held at Horan & McConaty Parker Chapel, 11150 E. Dartmouth, Aurora, CO 80014, on July 17, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.
