John Lopez

July 1, 1932 — November 25, 2020

John Lopez was born in Denver, CO on July 1, 1932. He passed away November 25, 2020 at the age of 88. John retired after 45 years of owning his business called Garden Place Barber Shop. After cutting hair for 29 years in the Globeville neighborhood, he relocated for the remaining years of his career in Elyria (John L’s Barbershop). He had a true passion for building classic cars, enjoying watching his grandchildren grow and loved to socialize with family and friends.

He started working at the age of 14 before joining the United States Marine Corps at the age of 19 where he was stationed at Camp Pendleton. While serving his country, he became a chef in the Korean War (1951-1954) and met some amazing, long-life friends.

John moved to California after the service with his first family and returned to Colorado in 1958 where he met his current wife, Marilyn F. (Stwalley). They married on May 13th 1961 and raised their family in the Swansea neighborhood. After living in Denver for 14 years, the Lopez family moved to Northglenn where they currently reside. John will be remembered for his unending love for his wife of 59 years. He always had a story to tell and loved to make people laugh. He will be missed dearly by the many people who knew him.

Our family thanks and cherishes those who are no longer with us and the ones that visited John from time to time.

John is survived by his wife, Marilyn Lopez; his children, Stephen (Dawn Renee) Lopez, Diana (John) Dodds, Saundra Kay Lopez, and Kendra Jo Lopez; his grandchildren, Caroll "Lynnie" (Chris P.), Sparkle, Jamie, Stephen, Tabitha, Jesse James, Tristan "Munchy", Abagael, and Olivia; along with 10 great-grandchildren (with another on the way) and 3 great-great grandchildren; his siblings, Jim Lopez and Pauline Huntsman; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other loving family members and friends.
