John Kelly

March 16, 1935 — February 27, 2021

Northglenn

John S. Kelly, 85 of Northglenn passed away on February 27, 2021 at his home. Born on March 16, 1935 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania he was the son of John Sr. and Elsie (Uhlig) Kelly. John married Catherine McMearty on November 4, 1958 and together they shared 62 years of marriage.

John served his country in the United States Navy in the 1950s and then worked as a stationary engineer at Gates Rubber Company for 37 years until he retired in 1997.

He enjoyed reading true crime and mystery novels and loved spending time at the Anythink library. He and Catherine spent many summers traveling and in addition to road trips throughout the US they visited Europe, Hawaii and cruised through the Panama Canal. He was a tried and true Denver Broncos fan who never missed a game but also loved getting to a Colorado Rockies game when he could. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, celebrating holidays and life cycle events with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

John was a soft-spoken man who will always be remembered for his compassion and generosity. Always there to lend a hand it would not be surprising to find him mowing the lawn or shoveling the driveway of his neighbor. He was a hard worker and always made sure that his family was provided for. He constantly put his family first and not a birthday or Christmas would pass without him making sure that his children were happy.

In addition to his wife, Catherine, he is survived by his children, John Edward Kelly (Rose). Margaret Ellen Ruckstuhl (Ted), Mary Kate Friedman (Matt) his grandchildren, Juan Kelly, Brian Kelly (Emma), Elizabeth Kelly, Kevin Dick, Katie Dick (J.R. Barela) and Talia Friedman, and great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Dubois, Aliyah Kelly, Dominic Kelly, Kyler Garcia, Eve Kelly, Jacob Barela, and Sullivan Dick. He is also survived by his brother David Kelly, his Aunt Rita Kelly, cousins Carole Holsing, Peter Kelly, Kathleen Grier, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers James Kelly and William Kelly, his grandparents Peter and Isabelle (Staunton) Kelly and Wilhelm and Maude (Morgan) Uhlig.
