John Dugopolski

December 25, 1928 — April 15, 2021

John Walter Dugopolski was born in Walsenburg, Colorado on December 25, 1928 to Walter and Mary Ann (Kulik) Dugopolski. On April 15, 2021 he met his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

John was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Parker. He was very fervent in his faith, studying the Word of God daily and assured by the scripture “Yes, by His grace you are saved through faith. It was not your own doing; it is God’s gift. It is not a result of anything you have done; and so no one may boast.” Eph 3:8-9.

John married Sue Rankine on September 11, 1953 in Denver. She preceded him in death on February 7, 2015.

John worked building fishing rods for the Wright & McGill Rod Company before being called to active duty in the Navy. He served aboard the USS Helena CA-75 during the Korean War and had the honor of bringing President-elect Dwight D. Eisenhower home from Guam to Honolulu, Hawaii in December 1952. He was an avid trout fisherman and spent many summers in his camping trailer in Poudre Canyon. He knew just about every hole on the Poudre River that would guarantee a fish. He continued to build fishing rods, refinish bamboo rods, and tie multitudes of fishing flies for family and friends. John played the accordion, steel guitar and would join Sue on the piano playing hymns on the harmonica. He retired from the Air Reserve Personnel Center, after which he worked part time for the Douglas County Schools.

The family that will miss John includes his daughters Ginny (Curt) Daily, Bushnell, NE, and Cindy (Randy) Oster, Parker, CO.  Granddaughters Kristie Daily, Guthrie, OK and Jessica (Jeff) Gussie, Rockwall, TX. Great grandchildren Jenna Gussie and Jaelynn Gussie, Rockwall, TX and Ryan Burchett, Phoenix, AZ. Brother-in-law Larry (Diann) Rankine, Lakewood, CO.  Nephew and Godson Jason Rankine, Yukon, OK. Godson Nicholas Pratt, Denver, CO, as well as his many cousins in the Denver area. John’s sister Betty Hanson and Grandson Nathan Daily also preceded him in death.
