Joan Collins Guiet

Joan Collins Guiet, age 78, passed away unexpectedly on October 7, 2020 after a 16-day battle with sepsis.  She passed peacefully surrounded by the love of her family.

Joan was born in Pittsburgh, PA March 23, 1942 to Edward B. and Louise H. Collins.  A story is told that once she was sent to her room for some misbehavior and she asked if she could just get spanked instead so she could go out – she had things to do.  And this, perhaps, defines Joan.  After graduating high school, she left Pittsburgh and eventually settled in Denver, CO where she met and married the love of her life, Phil.  They lived their life in Colorado where they raised two children.  Joan was the ultimate thrill seeker – whether hiking a Colorado 14er, kayaking in FL, taking helicopter rides in Sedona or taking an acrobatic bi-plane ride over the city, Joan loved all life had to offer.  Once she retired, Joan became actively involved in her neighborhood homeowners association as a member of the social committee, planning neighborhood events throughout the year (including once dressing as an elf for the children’s Santa Breakfast).  She also cherished the quiet times, reading books, taking walks, and spending time with her dogs.

Her personality lit up a room like the rising sun, her laugh was loud and contagious, and her love for her family and friends unbreakable.

Joan is survived by her husband of 53 years, Philip Guiet, by her two children Matt Guiet (spouse Susan Guiet) and Nicole Brender A Brandis (spouse Dwight Brender A Brandis), by her grandchildren Sarah Guiet, Line Holten Baevre, Jakob Brender A Brandis and Alexis Brender A Brandis, by her sister Martie Mattson (spouse Burt Mattson), and by her nephew Geoff Pohl (spouse Kristl Pohl).
