Jane Wink

July 2, 1936 — April 22, 2022

Lone Tree, Colorado

Jane Mary Wink, 85, of Lone Tree, CO, passed away April 15, 2022 of heart complications at her home, in God’s hands. A devoted Catholic, she passed away on Good Friday, which was very special to her and her family. Jane was born July 2, 1936 in Ft. Thomas, Kentucky to Edward Busch and Olive Champ Busch. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, Jane was happiest when surrounded by her family.

She is survived by her daughters: Mary Kathleen Wink of Littleton, CO, Karen Wink of Mystic, CT, and Paula Brucker of Lone Tree, CO; her grandchildren: Cameron Brucker of NY, NY, Donovan Brucker of Lone Tree, CO, Lily Brucker of NY, NY, and Jake Brucker of Corvallis, OR. She is preceded in death by her parents, cherished husband James “Jim” Wink, sisters: Ann Busch Torok (the late Johnny) of Cincinnati, OH and Jeanne Busch Allman (the late Pat) of Tampa, FL, and her brother Edward “Ted” Busch (the late Jean) of Cincinnati, OH.

Jane grew up in Ft Thomas, KY where she attended Villa Madonna Academy, then went to the University of Dayton (UD) where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. At UD, she lived in a house with girls next door to a house of guys—one of whom was Jim Wink. They dated, married, and became a loving couple for 58 enchanting years. Jim and Jane called Mentor, OH their home for 30 years, and they lived there 30 years to the month of June, 2001. After that time, they moved to Lone Tree, CO to be closer to family and grandchildren.

Jane was a wonderful elementary school teacher who taught in various schools in Owensboro, KY and Mentor, OH for 25 years. Her favorite school was Center Street Elementary in Mentor, OH where she made lifelong friends with other teachers and had some of the most fulfilling years of her career. She taught kindergarten and first grade and absolutely loved seeing children learn to read.  Jane received an honorable award for outstanding service from the Mentor Board of Education in 2000. Following in her footsteps, her daughter Kathleen became an elementary school teacher, and her daughter Karen became a college English professor. Her daughter Paula was a math and science high school teacher for a time also.

Her neighborhood will miss its social neighbor; McDonalds, its devoted black coffee and biscuit- loving customer; Hallmark channel, its enthusiastic viewer; Lone Tree library, its dedicated reader of romance and women’s fiction books; Lone Tree Rec Center, its social and active Silver Sneaker, and friends, their loyal and fun companion.

Jane loved people: family, extended family, grandchildren, friends, and children. She made people feel right at home and gave so many hugs, her arms almost gave way. Mostly, she loved stories—making them, telling them, and listening to them. May she do all three in heaven while drinking her favorite Kentucky Bourbon and soda on some days, red wine on others.
