James Causer

September 27, 1942 — January 7, 2022

Centennial

James Robert Causer, 79, of Centennial, Colorado went home to be with Jesus on January 7, 2022.  Jim passed away peacefully at The Denver Hospice with his wife and son by his side.

He was born in Ithaca, New York on September 27, 1942, to Robert Langwell Causer and Geraldine Bell Williams.  He attended the Cornell Hotel Management School followed by the University of Denver where he received his teaching degree.  He went on to earn his master’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado.

He married Kathleen McKeegan in 1966.  Their son Robert was born in 1967.  They later moved to Denver where their daughter Colleen was born in 1970.  They divorced in 1980.

In 1982, he married Jan Causer and they recently celebrated their 39th anniversary.  Their favorite times were spent with their blended family and grandchildren as well as traveling to favorite locations around the world.  An avid golfer, his favorite memory was attending the 2006 Ryder Cup at the K Club in St. Andrews, Scotland.  Jim loved his dogs!  He and Jan raised and adored three Soft-coated Wheaton Terriers.  His walks with them were some of his greatest joys.  He loved being with his children and grandchildren as much as they loved being with him.  Jim was a calming presence with a steady, loving, and compassionate nature.

He dedicated most of his adult life to public school education starting with the Littleton Public School District followed by the Cherry Creek School District as both a teacher and administrator.  He touched the lives of thousands of children and fellow colleagues.  He retired in 2010.  Remembrances include: “Mr. Causer was by far my favorite teacher!”, “Jim was a great man.”, “He was such an impactful teacher.”, “He was everyone’s favorite!”  A fellow administrator said, “He was professional, calm, and caring, all exactly what we needed at that time.”

Jim loved entertaining friends and family and was always the consummate host.  He was a fabulous active listener and learned and loved more by really listening to people.  His listening made everybody in the room feel important.  He made people better just by knowing him.  Jim brought humor, love, and kindness to all the lives he touched, and he will be forever missed and adored.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Janice L. Causer, his children Rob Causer and his wife Suzanne, and his daughter Colleen Carlson, as well as his stepchildren Marc Brown and his wife Michelle, Craig Brown, and Stephanie Brown (Niehoff).  He also leaves behind 11 cherished grandchildren: Olivia Causer, Morgan, Payton and Miles Brown, Cooper Hartzell, Lyla and Tess Carlson, Garett, Addison and Owen Niehoff, and Lauren Brown.  Each one was a treasure to him.

Jim’s Celebration of Life will be held on Monday January 24th at 11:00am.
