Henry Gilbert

April 13, 1926 — January 12, 2022

Hank passed away on January 12, 2022, peacefully at home, with his sons by his side. He was born on April 13, 1926 in Mansfield, Ohio to John Hopkinson Gilbert and Mary Bentley (Brinkerhoff) Gilbert. Graduated from Mansfield High School in 1943. He served in the Army Air Force as a Photograph Laboratory Technician in Okinawa and was Honorably Discharged on December 9, 1946. Hank came home to Ohio after his discharge from the Army and continued his studies at Case Institute of Technology in Cleveland, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering in 1948.
Hank married Vivian Lee Edwards on September 6, 1947 in Leesville, Ohio and soon after Hank’s graduation the couple moved to Newark, Ohio to raise a family and start Hank’s career at Owens-Corning Fiberglass in Newark. In 1954 the family moved to Plainfield, New Jersey where the children attended the public schools and Hank continued his career at the Johns-Manville Research Center in Manville, New Jersey.
In 1972 Johns-Manville moved the research center to the suburbs of Denver, Colorado so Hank moved the family home to Sedalia, Colorado. The “wild west” proved a little bit too wild for Vivian, in the form of rattlesnakes, so Hank found the perfect and final Gilbert homestead on Marston Lake in Denver in 1976.
After a distinguished 30 year long corporate career Hank decided to move on and use his expertise and resources to help support a number of local businesses and community projects in his final years. In their spare time Hank and Vivian traveled the world, enjoyed visits with family and friends and were avid Broncos fans.
Hank was preceded in death by his beloved Vivian; sons Dale Wesley Gilbert, Mark Douglas Gilbert; brother Bentley Brinkerhoff Gilbert. Survived by his twin sons Steven Edwards Gilbert, John Hopkinson Gilbert; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
