Fr. John Farrow

John Farrow, an Eastern Orthodox Priest (full name Mason John Farrow) age 86, entered into eternal life after a brief illness on January 12, 2022. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sarah (aka Sally) Tapp Farrow and four sons, Christopher (Taña), Daniel, William, and Nicholas (Christine); grandsons, Benjamin and Nicholas; numerous nieces and nephews. Born to Mason Lee Farrow and Elizabeth Catherine Wiest Farrow in Boulder, Colorado, on April 4, 1935, he was the oldest of eight brothers and predeceased by three of them, Richard, Stephen, and David. His surviving siblings are Joseph of Yuma, Arizona; Robert (Anne) of Pacifica, California; Michael (Vicky) of Healdsburg, California; and Thomas (Bobbi) of Rockvale, Colorado.

John served in the United States Air Force as a Radio Traffic Analyst. He was stationed in Turkey for two years. After his return to the United States, he served in the Air Force Reserve until his discharge in 1962. After his discharge, he returned to school earning a BA degree in Mathematics from Western State College, Gunnison, Colorado in June 1966. He and Sarah were married August 6, 1966.

After working briefly for Martin Marietta, John went back to school to earn his MA in Mathematics from the University of Denver, which he received in June 1969. He then served the State of Colorado for nearly 30 years as a Water Quality Engineer.

At the same time, John served his church as an Acolyte, Lay Reader and Subdeacon. After his retirement, he fulfilled his long held calling to serve God in the Church and was ordained to the diaconate in 1999. He served as Pastoral Assistant at the Church of the Resurrection in Denver, Colorado. On May 14, 2014, he was ordained to the Sacred Order of Priests by Archbishop and Metropolitan Alexander of the Eastern Orthodox Church of America. He continued to assist at the Church of the Resurrection and provided services for a nursing home congregation in Lakewood, Colorado until health concerns caused him to take on lighter duties.

Services for Fr. John will take place on January 21 at 2:30 PM at the Horan & McConaty Chapel at 7577 West 80th Avenue in Arvada, Colorado. Internment at Fr. Logan will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Fr. John’s favorite charities: St. Alexander Order of Holy Cross, which funds both domestic and foreign charity projects, including a ministry to the poor and homeless in Lakewood, Colorado.
