Emily Drummond

Emily Josephine (Jo) Drummond, age 94, died peacefully in her sleep at The Peaks at Old Laramie Trail Senior Living, on September 4, 2021.

Jo was born to Leslie and Hazel Stanley on September 26, 1926, in Williamsport, Pa.  She grew up on a series of Army bases where her father served in the Officer Corp.  She graduated from Penn State University (BA, Phi Beta Kappa) and the University of Minnesota (MSW).

Jo had a successful career as a psychiatric social worker with the Veterans’ Administration that spanned four decades.  She served veterans at Fort Snelling VA Hospital in St. Paul, MN and Kirtland VA Hospital in Albuquerque, NM.

Religion was central in Jo’s life.  She sang in church choirs and especially liked Greek liturgical music.

Choral music was an important part of Jo’s life.  She performed in numerous choirs, both secular and religious.  She performed in Europe as well as in Minneapolis/St. Paul and Albuquerque.

Jo  and her husband Harold traveled extensively on multiple continents.

They  enjoyed going to the Santa Fe Opera, as well as productions in New York and Europe.

Survivors include: a brother, James (Lake Bluff, Ill.); sons Harry (Arvada, Co.) and Peter (Plymouth, MN.); daughters Leslie (New Rochelle, NY) and Hilary (Mukilteo, WA,); grandsons (Harry, Peter, Michael, Nathan, Chris, Will, Trent,  Wade) and one granddaughter (Jacqueline);  three great- granddaughters (Malia, Emily, Jessica); as well as many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Elizabeth, and her husband Harold.

Services will be held at 10:30, Monday, September 20th at St. Luke’s Orthodox Christian Church,  722 Austin Avenue, Erie, Co. 80516.  Father David Mustian will be the celebrant.  Interment will  follow  the church service at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, 520 Colliers Blvd. Erie, CO.  All are welcome back at the church for a luncheon at noon.

Contributions may be made to the Community Table, 8555 W. 57th Avenue, Arvada, Co. 80002.  (cotable.org)   The Community Table is a food pantry that serves northern metro Denver counties.
