Eduardo Ahumada

Ed, aged 83, came to the US when he was 27. He earned an MA at the University of New Mexico on an International Scholarship from the Agency for International Development. At UNM, he met and married Anna Montano. He returned to his home country for two years to complete the conditions of his scholarship.  He returned to the US and went on to earn a PhD from UNM. He taught every level of student from Junior High through College Level in his long career as an educator. He loved learning and after moving to Colorado, he went on to earn a second Master’s Degree from the University of Northern Colorado in his 70s.

He spent many happy hours gardening and was always happy to spend time outside, and going for long walks in the open living park, near his home—both with his wife and alone.

Ed was born in Santa Marta, Colombia, SA on January 5, 1939.  He died after a long illness on January 14, 2022.

He is survived by his wife, Anna, their daughter Ona E. Ahumada and grand-daughter Kira Ahumada of Lakewood, Colorado, sister and brother-in-law Christine and Ray Chavez of Santa Fe, NM. He is also survived by his sisters Eva Castano of Manizales, Colombia and Nidia Pena of Bogota, Colombia as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Ed will be cremated and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
