Douglas Earl Smith passed away at home in Denver, Colorado on October 17, 2020 at the age of 90.

Douglas was born on September 11, 1930 in Tyler, Minnesota.  He joined the U.S. Army in July of 1950 where he proudly earned his jump wings and served in the 11th Airborne Division until he was Honorably Discharged in July 1953. Upon return from serving in the U.S. Army he lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota where he worked for Northwestern Bell. In 1970 he transferred to Mountain Bell in Denver, Colorado and lived here ever since. He retired from US West in 1987 and then went to work for Bear Valley and Evergreen Ace Hardware stores until 2012.  He was a member of the American Legion, enjoyed being outdoors and skiing, was an avid hunter, loved playing golf, bowling, and playing fastpitch softball.

He is survived by wife Carol Smith; daughters Teresa Meisenhalder, Dawn Adams, and Debra Kutz;  and grandchildren Tristan & Myiah Meisenhalder. He is preceded in death by parents Glen & Ella Mae Smith; brothers Lloyd & Dale Smith; and daughter Tammy.

A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, November 9, 2020 at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 4400 W. Kenyon Ave, Denver, CO 80236, at 1415 (2:15pm). Family and friends are welcome to gather for an after service visitation and gathering at a location that will be announced at the service.
