Dorsey Bodeman

April 11, 1942 — November 18, 2022

Dorsey Bodeman, 80, died on November 18, 2022 after a lengthy illness with vascular dementia.

Dorsey was born on April 11, 1942, in Denver, Colorado to Doris (Nielsen) and C. Robert Bodeman, Jr. Survivors include daughters Lisa Cox of Highlands Ranch, CO and Lori Cox-Paul (Eli) of Kansas City, MO; sister Anne Widga of Lincoln, NE; and brother Bradley Bodeman of Tyler, TX. She is also survived by numerous cousins, several nieces, and one nephew.

She grew up in Central City, Nebraska and graduated from Central City High School in 1960. Following high school, Dorsey attended college briefly at Kearney State. However, following an illness, she moved to Colorado and worked as a secretary at Martin Marietta. Dorsey was united in marriage with William B. Cox in 1964 and later divorced. Following many years as a homemaker, room mother, and Girl Scout leader, Dorsey went back to college and obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from the University of Colorado-Denver. She became a social studies teacher at Smoky Hill High School. As a teacher, she had the opportunity to participate in several summer teacher institutes at historic sites located in Virginia. This led Dorsey to move across the country to Virginia where she embarked on a second career in the museum field. She worked in the area of museum education at some our country’s most historic sites including Thomas Jefferson’s homes Monticello and Poplar Forest, the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, and at Historic St. Mary’s City in Maryland. Following her retirement, Dorsey returned to Colorado, settling in Highlands Ranch, CO.

Dorsey was an enthusiastic supporter of the Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies, attending many games over the years. She loved reading, walking, exercising with her many friends at the Littleton YMCA gym, watching the hot air balloons over Chatfield Dam and Reservoir, and anything to do with animals.

Lisa and Lori would also like to thank all of the caregivers who have helped so much over the last several years.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Denver Zoo, Colorado Public Radio, or your favorite museum or historic site.

A private memorial service is planned for a later date.
