Doris Bullock

February 2, 1931 — October 28, 2021

Denver, Colorado

Doris Elma (Young) Bullock, age 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by family members on October 28, 2021, in Denver, Colorado. She was born February 2, 1931, in Detroit, Michigan and had one older brother, Fred. She grew up in Detroit and loved spending summers at Lake Michigan. Doris attended Michigan State University where she met her husband, Donald Forbes Bullock. They were married on July 26, 1952, in Detroit, Michigan and moved to Fort Lee, Virginia where Don was stationed as he had joined the Army in 1951.

After moving around the country and adding six children to their family, Don and Doris finally settled in Aurora, Colorado in 1967 where they raised their children and remained for the rest of their lives. Doris was known for her sense of humor, sarcasm, and quick wit; survival tactics needed to raise six children (including two sets of twins, 14 months apart!).

Doris loved to volunteer and worked with a number of organizations.  Her room mother career spanned 15 years and when she was not busy being a room mother she was the team mom for her boy's soccer teams. She loved volunteering at the hospital and was involved with the Hospital Auxiliary of Aurora for over 45 years.  She was also very involved for over 30 years with P.E.O. and the Adams-Arapahoe Women’s club.  She bowled for years until arthritis forced her to stop in her fifties and was active in several Bridge groups throughout her life, bringing her competitive spirit to the Bridge table up until her final days. She loved her friends and adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved making her grandchildren Mac and Cheese, and teaching them how to play board games, but never ‘letting them win’. She also loved a competitive game of hide the thimble.

Doris was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, Donald Bullock, her parents, Frederick and Elma Young, her brother, Fred Young, infant daughter, Cheryll and daughter Linda Chappell. She is survived by her daughters Dawn Golden (Jeff), Susan Wertz (Chip), and Kathy Emerson (Bruce); and sons Scott Bullock (Julie), and Keith Bullock (Amy). Twelve grandchildren, Stephanie Bailey (Jeff), Tiffany Gilley (Jason), Eric Golden (Cailin), Jamie Golden, Andrew Wertz (Adrienne), Matt Wertz, Sarah Lanzarotta (Craig), Jackson Bullock, Brooke Brinar, Ryan Bullock, Melissa Emerson, Douglas Emerson, and six great grandchildren; Knox Bailey, Chappell Bailey, Faith Gilley, Maggie Golden, Colten Golden and Athan Wertz. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to The Denver Hospice for their support and kindness. Donations may be made to The Denver Hospice. A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held on July 23, 2022 at 11:00am Horan & McConaty Chapel, 5303 E. County Line Rd, Littleton, CO 80122
