Donna Peitsmeyer

November 1, 1931 — October 3, 2021

Donna was born in Reeder, North Dakota November 1, 1931 to Inez Genevieve and John Colgate Lloyd. She passed painlessly and peacefully on Sunday morning, October 3, 2021 shortly after a visit from her son Tom and in the presence of her daughter, Kathy.

She attended school at the Emily Griffith Practical Nursing Program and later became a Licensed Practical Nurse. Following her licensure and after working at a hospital for many years, she worked for General Internal Medicine M.D., Ivo Erban. in Arvada until her retirement.

Donna was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Loveland and supported her late husband’s memberships in the Longs Peak Masonic Lodge #197, Scottish Rite Consistory of Denver and El Jebel Shrine Temple of Colorado.

She was very involved in training service dogs and providing early reading interventions at the local elementary schools and cheering up patients at local hospitals and retirement homes. One of Donna’s greatest life joys was being a mother and grandmother. She was so caring and patient. She taught all her children and grandchildren how to read from Dick and Jane and spent hours teaching them to tie their shoes, among so many other important life lessons. Every chance she got, she could be found at various scholastic, extracurricular, equestrian, and sporting events cheering on her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition, Donna loved to travel and was able to do so with her Husband’s military career. She spent many years of her life piling various children and grandchildren in her car, camper, or motorhome and taking them on adventures all over the country, most often back to North Dakota to visit family and friends. Family and friends were so important to Donna. Each morning after serving breakfast and doing chores she would sit down in the kitchen with her telephone and address index next to her and pick someone to call or jot a note to.

Donna married Charles “Chuck” J Peitsmeyer of Omaha, Nebraska on August 4, 1951 in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Together they were married for 55 years and brought five children into the world. They moved to Loveland, Colorado in April 1992 where they lived together until Chuck’s passing. Donna ultimately ended up moving to Lovettsville, Virginia to be near family. She spent her final years at Spring Arbor in Leesburg, Virginia where she received excellent care and regular visits from family and friends.

She is survived by sons Michael Peitsmeyer, (Natalie); Charles Peitsmeyer Jr., (Susan); and Thomas Peitsmeyer; daughter Kathy Spencer, (David), eleven grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Donna was preceded in death by her parents, her twin sister Dorothy Gayle, husband Charles Peitsmeyer, infant son, David L. Peitsmeyer and grandsons Brian J. Peitsmeyer and Connor C. Peitsmeyer, and many close friends and extended family members.
