Dianne Diehl

1942 — January 1, 2022

Dianne Diehl, died in her sleep on Monday, October 24, at 7:15am. She was 80 years old and was married to Charlie Diehl for 59 years.

Dianne was born in Dumas, Texas on September 3, 1942.  Her parents were Willie Mary and Gordon Keith Denman. She has a brother, Denny Jack Denman, who still lives in Crockett, Texas.

Dianne met Charlie when they were both studying to be teachers at the University of North Texas, in Denton, Texas, back in 1961.  They were married in 1963 in Dumas and then lived at the Univ. of North Texas for the next 2 years. They moved to Denver in 1965 when they were both hired by Jefferson County Public Schools.  Dianne taught preschool and kindergarten for 30 years at Lakewood United Methodist Preschool, where she is well remembered.

Many of you know that Dianne was living with Alzheimer’s for the last 10 years. While we are heartbroken to say that she is gone, we are glad to say she is no longer suffering. Alzheimer’s is a long, slow, and often ugly way to go. Charlie lovingly cared for Dianne at home for all but the last month of her life, where she was surrounded by everything and everyone she loved the most.

During the last month of her life, Dianne was at the Julia Temple Health and Memory Care facility in Englewood and the Brookdale Memory Care facility in Arvada. We are forever grateful to the caregivers who honored her as the beautiful person she was.  They went above and beyond the call of duty in taking care of Dianne in such a loving and professional way.  She was only at Brookdale for 10 days, but in that short time, even in the advanced stage of the disease, she touched others with her feisty spirit and will for life.

Dianne was a spunky woman of integrity who laughed often and loved with all her heart. She was a master teacher, a tiny little lady with a big and beautiful personality, an incredible grandma, a volunteer and active member of her community, and the mother who raised both Donny and Carrie, who later became teachers just like her.

Dianne is survived by her husband Charlie, her children Donny and Carrie, and her grandchildren Brooke and Payton.  We want to thank everyone who has sent love and support over the years.

Dianne will be cremated. She left us a list of several places where she wanted her ashes to be spread. We, as a family, will make a road trip of it in the near future and visit those places together.

We will have a celebration of her life at 1pm on December 17, 2022 at Horan & McConaty at 7577 W 80th Ave, Arvada, CO.

Please do not send/bring flowers or other items like that.  Instead, we would ask that you bring a memory or a fun story about Dianne to share at her celebration.

We also ask that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America in Dianne’s memory.
