David Mundt

1954 — January 1, 2022

Littleton, Colorado

David Eugene Mundt passed away Friday, June 24, 2022. He was born January 20, 1954, in Lincoln, Nebraska to parents Leon R. and Ruth E (Leininger) Mundt.  He was baptized into the Christian faith.  He attended St. Peter Lutheran Elementary School and Deshler High School in Deshler, Nebraska.  In his youth, Dave was active in choir, band, sports and attained the rank of Eagle Scout as a Boy Scout.  Dave was chosen to attend Nebraska Boys State as a Junior in high school.  As a Senior, Dave was awarded the John Philip Sousa Award in band.  As 1st Trumpet, he led the Pep Band, Stage Band and Concert Band in many inspiring pieces.

Following graduation from DHS in 1972, David attended Grand Island School of Business and attained an Associate Degree in Accounting.  His first job following business school was at a bank in Fairmont, Nebraska where he earned the princely sum of nearly $400 a month.  During that time, he also was a part time bartender at the Stockman’s Club in Fairmont.  Dave’s career path took him to Columbus and Grand Island, Nebraska, Des Moines, Iowa, Crete, Nebraska and finally to his home of the past 30 plus years in the Denver, Colorado area.  He was an operations manager for Sherwin Williams, Akzo Nobel and LKQ automotive paints.  He was a dedicated, hard-working employee and an excellent manager of people.  Many employees came to Dave with their personal problems, and he always had time to listen and help in any way he could.  Dave juggled the daily paint and supplies demands of literally hundreds of body shops in the Denver – Colorado Springs Metro Area over the years.  He made many friends in the industry.  They always knew they could count on Dave to help them with their “crisis of the day”.  Dave retired in 2018 and many, many customers were saddened to no longer hear him on the other end of the phone saying “Hello, this is Dave; how can I help”.

David was blessed with the birth of a son, Justin David Mundt on February 11, 1987 from a previous marriage.  His guidance and example to his son showed him the way to live with honesty and integrity.

On September 4, 1999, Dave married Amy McDowell.  Dave’s friends were continually lining him up with blind dates and the evening of this particular blind date when Dave and Amy met, the sparks flew.  They were both blessed with true love for each other.

Dave was an outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish as much as possible.  He had the opportunity to fish in Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, Minnesota and Canada over the years.  “Let’s go fishing” had a different meaning for him than most of us.  He was always ready to “wet a line”.  Dave shot numerous deer over his lifetime but still wanted that “Trophy Buck”.  His day came on November 14, 2020 in a field near Wallace, Nebraska when he shot a Mule Deer, Typical Rack, that ranks currently #174 all time in the Nebraska Big Game Trophy Records book.

Dave was always a cheerful, sincere, and positive person and a trusted friend.  He was selfless to a fault.  We would all be better people if we were more like Dave, on a daily basis.  Throughout the past three years of treatment for his multiple myeloma cancer, he never lost that cheerful positive attitude.  Anyone who knew Dave, knew he was quite a guy.  He will be sorely missed.

Dave is survived by his wife of 22 years, Amy; son, Justin and his wife, Lauren; grandchildren:  Kenadie and Mikayla; his mother, Ruth E Mundt; brother and sister-in-law, Douglas and Dawn; nephew, Jarod Mundt and wife Stacey; niece Julie Mundt Rohrs and husband Jared; great nephews, Reef and Ayrton Rohrs.  Numerous cousins and innumerable friends are left to honor his memory and how he celebrated life.

David’s Celebration of Life will be held at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3101 Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood, CO  80227, Friday, July 1, 2022, 10am. A private inurnment at Kramer Community Cemetery in Kramer, Nebraska will be done at a later date.
