Christopher Dietz

Christopher (Chris) Robert Dietz of Thornton was born December 1st, 1967 and passed away suddenly February 10, 2021 as the result of a car accident. He was the son of Lorraine Miller and the late Robert Dietz. Loving husband and soulmate of eighteen years to Lisa Meyerdieks Dietz, adoring father of Michael, Kaitlyn (Sean) and Annie, doting “Gampa” to Devanni (dad Ethan Buckner) and Daxton. Also deeply mourning his loss are his siblings Jennifer Parys (Tim), Troy Williams (Michelle) and Jason Dietz (Cathleen) as well as Lisa’s family Laura Coombs (Ron), Linda Meyerdierks (Jim) and Scott Meyerdierks. Chris will be missed by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and best friend Jeff Bates (Daisy).

Chris had a huge heart and a gentle and kind spirit. He was an honorable, honest and selfless man, always ready to lend a helping hand. He was able to utilize these traits as a very active member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church. He volunteered as a board member of Cross of Christ Music Academy and as a former Council at Large member. He was a chaperone for the yearly youth group “lock in” and went to Rainbow Trail Lutheran Confirmation Camp with Annie’s class for three years. Most recently he served as a mentor to a youth completing confirmation.

He was able to combine his love of music and worship as a guitar-playing member of the church band “Proclaim”. He began playing just five years ago after a prolonged hiatus. The friendships he developed playing with the band were an important part of his life and his faith. His renewed interest in playing the guitar morphed into a new hobby – refinishing guitars, which he always said would be his retirement job.

Chris was a 20+ year member of the Landsharks recreational hockey team. “Dietz” was a defenseman. He was honored by his team a few days after his passing with a win in a shootout in front of his family. Hockey and his teammates were very important to him. If there was a game on TV, the TV remote belonged only to him. Over time, Lisa introduced him to televised tennis games and questionable reality TV shows.

If Chris had had a choice, he may have chosen to be a comedian. Alas, his collection of Dad jokes and endless supply of jokes of dubious and inappropriate taste would have kept him off the stage. However, he was enthusiastic about sharing this talent with family and friends often. Never once was he deterred by his audiences’ mixed reactions.

Chris was in the oil & gas industry for more than 30 years. His most recent position was as an Automation Controls Engineer for Volumetrics, a company he was proud to work for due to a workplace environment of mutual respect and integrity. His talents of tinkering and fixing things (going back before building his first car with his dad) were valued by his company and coworkers. A nerdy childhood filled with taking things apart and putting them back together prepared him for his successful career.

Above all things, Chris was a family man through and through. He loved his children unconditionally always and was always there to listen. He cherished his “Gampa” time with Devi, whether as a naptime partner, reading one more story or playing with her in the backyard doing double duty as a playmate while on poop patrol chore time. Chris did not practice his jokes on Devi.

He loved his Sunday morning breakfasts out with family. Sterling Reservoir was a special place where his family and his friend Jeff would spend weekends tubing and RVing. He was very close to his sister, brothers and mother, and holiday family gatherings and dinners were sacred.

On warm Friday nights, he and Lisa would hang out on the front porch with an adult beverage and dissect the previous week’s happenings. Lisa and Chris were true partners. Any success, any burden was shared equally. Good times were celebrated and problems were dealt with together as a team. They were best friends and soulmates. Chris was and will ever be Lisa’s Honey Bear.
