Charles Harold Orwald, age 86, died in his sleep at home on January 10, 2021.
Charles was born August 5,1934 in Ulen, Minnesota. As a teenager he lived with an aunt and uncle in Seattle, Washington for a few years.
Chuck enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1953. He served in Korea; Okinawa and Iwo Jima, Japan; Germany; Greece and at various bases in the U.S. He left the Air Force in 1967. In 1975 he entered the Army National Guard and served there until May 1984. He then went into the U.S. Army Reserves until June 1993. He served with distinction and honor and was proud of his service and country.
Chuck loved to fly and owned his own plane for a few years. He also loved to ride his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He made friends easily and enjoyed being with his friends and family very much. He had a great love for German Shepherds and owned seven during his lifetime.
He and his wife, Mary Coats, were married in October of 1976. His parents and sisters preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife and eight nieces and nephews: Nancy Rikhus, John Rikhus, Lori Rikhus Busby, Joseph Rikhus, Mary Rikhus Haugtvedt, James Rikhus, Kim Werner Fortin and Paul Werner.
Services will be held at 1:00 pm on January 19, 2021 at Horan & McConaty Funeral Home, 3101 South Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood, Colorado. Visitation will be on January 18, 2021 from 4-6 pm. All his friends and family are welcome.
