Cathleen Lou Carter Reynolds - known to everyone as Cathy, died on November 24th in Denver, CO.  Cathy experienced a stroke earlier in the month and died with Rick holding her hand, early in the morning at the UC Health Anschutz campus, where she could see their home from her window.

Born on November 28, 1944 in Kansas City, MO, Cathy grew up in Shawnee Mission, KS.  She graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School and attended the University of Kansas.  She and Rick moved to Denver in 1966, one year after their marriage.  In 1975, Cathy Reynolds was the first woman elected to the Denver City Council where she was City Council President five times. Cathy served on the Denver City Council as an at-large member for a record 28 years and 21 days, as well as Chairing the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District for more than 20 years. Cathy spent 25 years on the board of the Colorado Municipal League, serving as president twice. She is a past president of the National League of Cities and chaired the Denver Convention Center Hotel Authority.  She was instrumental in the conversion of Lowry and Stapleton Airport. She also served on the Citizen Oversight Board.  Some of Cathy’s proudest professional accomplishments were the assault weapon ban, civil rights legislation, and the tax to support those with developmental disabilities.

Cathy is survived by her adoring husband, Rick Reynolds, their sons; Bob Reynolds and Matt Reynolds, and grandchildren; Henry, Wynn, Rider, and Marin Reynolds, all living in Colorado.  Her sister, Carolyn Beller of Overland Park, KS, also survives her.

No services are planned at this time.  When it is possible for people to gather safely a memorial will be organized.  Memorial contributions in Cathy’s honor are welcome at the Colorado Special Olympics.
