Carol Baier

January 10, 1939 — August 7, 2020

Centennial

Carol Marie Baier, of Centennial, Colorado, passed away on Friday, August 7, 2020, with her husband by her side. She was 81.

Carol was born on January 10, 1939 in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Joseph and Maybelle Niederriter. She married Robert (Bob) Baier on October 24, 1959. They lived in Cleveland until 1968, when they moved to the western suburb of North Olmsted. In 1980, Bob’s job took them to the Denver, Colorado area. She had three children: Sue Malphrus (spouse Gene), John Baier (Kristin), and Jeanne Dunavant (William).

Carol loved her family before all else. She was a devoted wife and mother who was involved in many of her children’s activities. She served as a Girl Scout troop leader and Cub Scout den mother, and attended countless musical performances and ball games in support of her children. As her children grew up, they spread out from coast to coast, yet Carol remained close by phone and in person when she could, always a supportive presence in their lives and those of her grandchildren.

Alongside her family activities, Carol held several jobs through the years. She was a very successful Avon lady during the years in North Olmsted, no doubt in part because of her outgoing personality. After moving to Colorado, she worked as an insurance assistant, and later as a convention hostess. She went back to school as an adult and proudly earned her associate’s degree from Arapahoe Community College in 2001.

Carol enjoyed a wide range of hobbies and activities. She was an avid bowler, having first learned at a young age in her family’s bowling alley, and participated in many leagues over the years. She loved to travel and camp, and won several awards for her beautiful nature photography. She also enjoyed sewing, crafts, pottery, and flower arranging.

People loved Carol for her fun-loving spirit and caring nature. Her fierce determination in the face of extensive, long-term physical challenges made her an inspiration to all who knew her.

In addition to her husband and children, she is survived by her sister Connie Mykytuk and brother Howard Niederriter; grandchildren Laura Dixon, Dan Dixon (Claire), and Emma Baier; great grandchildren Bayer and Charlie Dixon; many nieces, nephews, and their children and grandchildren; and an abundance of dear friends.
