Britton (Brit) Agler

January 14, 1951 — April 13, 2021

Britton (Brit) Garold Agler was born January 14, 1951 to Garold and Kathryn Agler in Miles City, MT. They brought him home to Baker, MT to join his sisters Linda and Molly. He grew up in Baker participating in Cub Scouts and developing lifelong friendships. In his teenage years he developed a passion for cars, always working to buy a newer, racier car. He spent his summers in Polson, MT working at a local service station and helping his brother-in-law, Bobby Schweigert, build and race stock cars. He graduated from Baker High School in 1969.

He attended University of Montana for one year before relocating to Polson, MT. He was briefly married to Ena Gates in 1970 and they welcomed a daughter, Tricia Renee, who passed away just weeks after her birth in 1971.

Brit began driving race cars in 1970. He held various jobs in the Mission Valley before going to work for Don Aadson Ford in 1974. Don Aadson recognized Brit’s love for racing and the skills of Brit’s friend and mechanic at the dealership, John Rody. The three of them built a race team that won numerous races and trophies from 1974 to 1981. Brit never lost his love of racing, following the NASCAR circuit, other racing circuits and local racing throughout his life.

In 1975 he married Cathy McCoy and became stepfather to her children Tanya and Joe. They had a daughter together, Keely, in 1977. They lived in Ronan and Kalispell from the time they were married until relocating to Casper, WY in 1982. Brit transitioned from selling cars to the oil and gas industry. From 1982 to 1984 they moved from Casper to Aurora, CO before settling in Gillette, WY. Brit worked for several oil service companies while in Gillette including Kobe, Trico and Weatherford. Brit and Cathy were divorced in 1993.

Brit married Deb Powell in 1995 and became stepfather to her children Jennifer, Jessica and Jamie. In 1995, Brit accepted a transfer with Weatherford to Anchorage, Alaska. While in Alaska Brit worked for Weatherford, Unocal and Chevron. Brit and Deb were divorced in 2006. He retired from Chevron in 2011.

In retirement Brit’s son-in-law Rob Hanson introduced him to the game of golf which became his favorite hobby. He moved in with Keely and Rob and his granddaughters, Kayla and Hailey so that he could spend much of his retirement traveling. He would go just about anywhere there was a beach, golf courses or race track. He reconnected with many of his friends from Baker and the Polson area and would often meet them around the country for races or other adventures. In 2015, he and his daughter, son-in-law and granddaughters relocated from Anchorage, AK to Aurora, CO where Brit continued to reside with his family.

Brit was a proud father and grandfather. His every action and decision was determined with the best interests of his family in mind. His daughter Keely will forever be grateful for the close-knit bonds between them, and with her family. There was never a moment when they did not know and feel his devotion. He was a best friend to Rob, spending countless hours golfing with him and taking golf and sports trips together. He was present in every aspect of his granddaughter’s life and they adored him.

Brit passed away April 13, 2021 after a brief but valiant battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his daughter, son-in-law and granddaughters. He has left a deep void behind in their lives, but they will be forever grateful for the closeness they shared with him and the love he showed them every day.

Brit was preceded in death by his parents Garold and Kathryn Agler, his daughter Tricia Renee Agler, his stepson Joseph Arlint and his sister Linda Agler.

Brit is survived by his sister Molly Clark, his daughter Keely Agler-Hanson (Rob), his granddaughters Kayla and Hailey Hanson as well as his step-children and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at Lakeview Cemetery in Polson, MT on Saturday June 5, 2021 at 4:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will follow at Kwataqnuk Resort.
